YOUNG DRIVER TRAINING DAY
(Motorkhana Come & Try)
Supported by CAMS and Penrite Oils
Message from the Clerk of Course
Welcome and thank-you for your interest in the PAC Junior Development Driver Training Dayat the McGregor Road grounds of the Pakenham Auto Club. The Event is designed to give participants a basic understanding of motorsport and the opportunity to drive some typical motorkhana tests under the guidance of experienced competitors. In order to be covered by CAMS insurance, the event is open only to members of a CAMS affiliated club who hold a CAMS competition licence (See information below about Membership & Licences).
The event is aimed, primarily, at juniors (at least 12 and less than 18 years of age). A maximum of twenty (20) participants will be accepted, preference being given to those under 17 years. Juniors do not need to supply their own car as the PAC Junior Motorsport Club Cars will be at their disposal. All cars will be checked for safety by club scrutineers before being allowed to participate. A nominal charge of $5 per participant will be made to minimise the cost to the club of running the event.
PAC is not a child minding group; participantsmust be accompanied by a parent or guardian who remains at the venue throughout the day. Parents and guardians are encouraged to attend the Participant Briefing as this will give them a good insight into what to expect if the child proceeds further into a motorsport career.
The day will be very casual, but will follow proper motorsport procedure.
After signing on, we will start with a Participant Briefing – a classroom session that gives a brief overview and history of the Pakenham Auto Club, provides some fundamental motorsport safety information and describes the various different types of motorsport from the basic club motorkhana up to the World Formula 1 Grand Prix Championship.
Next, we will move to the practical session. Participants will be split into small groups, each assigned a Group Leader and an Instructor/Demonstrator. Motorsport is dangerous, so Participants are required to respond immediately to any instruction from a Group Leader or Instructor/Demonstrator. A Participant failing to do so may be excluded from the premises.
This is a come-and-try fun day. There will be no timing. There will be no scoring. There will be no event awards.
I would like to acknowledge and thank all the people and organisations that have contributed to making the come and try event possible including Pakenham Auto Club Inc, CAMS, the Motorkhana panel, and the PAC members who have given up their time to make the event happen.
Bring the family, bring the friends – we look forward to seeing you there.
Glad Fish; Clerk of Course, On behalf of The Directing Team
