Hunger Games Research Project
Big Questions:What led to the creation of Panem
in The Hunger Games? How is this social, political,
or environmental cause seen in present-day society?
What can we do to avoid the path that led to Panem?
Step 1:Meet with small group and create a list of possible causes.
(social, political, or environmental)
Step 2:Decide on a primary cause with your small group.
Step 3:Individually, find text supporting examples to back up your primary cause. Each group member must have a minimum of 3 examples, with direct quotes, page numbers, and explanations of how each quote supports your claim. Record on your group’s Google.doc.
Step 4:How is that cause seen in our present world? Research using credible sources. I encourage you to find experts in the local community to interview. List your individual research on the group Google.doc.
Step 5:What can be done to prevent/reduce/reverse this in our current world, based on your primary cause and research? Back your prevention method(s) with research using credible sources. . I encourage you to find experts in the local community to interview. List your individual research on the group Google.doc.
Step 6:Write a Persuasive essay based on your accumulated information. Each group member must take one of the 3 paragraphs, but may use the research material gathered by any group member. Make sure to cite properly.
Persuasive Essay:
1)Primary cause of Panem (with Text Support)
2)How is this seen in our world (with Researched Evidence)
3)What can be done to prevent, reduce, or reverse this cause in our current world (with Researched Evidence)
Step 7:Share your findings publicly. You may create a Glog, a Facebook Event/Cause, a Public Awareness Video, a Podcast, etc. Be Creative.
Grading:You will be graded on the following: your group participation; the critical thinking behind your possible causes and primary cause; your text support with page numbers; the amount, quality, and credibility of your research on present society and prevention; the quality of your essay; your public posting; and your citation throughout. Extra credit can be earned for dialoguing with an expert (with proof that you did so). Note that in some categories, you will be graded as a group, but I will still be factoring in your individual contribution, as indicated in the Google.doc.
