Fall 2017

Human Service Campus BBQ 2017

“Networking with a Cause”

BBQ Blueprint

What:

Your team will be barbequing a mealfor 700 to800 homeless individuals. The BBQ will be outside on the grounds of the Human Service Campus, located at 12th Avenue and Madison.

Set-up and Serving Logistics:

Please arrive by 12:30 p.m. in order to be set-up and be cooking by 1:30 p.m.Plan on beginning to serve the first round at2:00 p.m.

Volunteer Roles and quantity needed:

  • “Grillers” cooking at each grill (6)
  • “Runners” taking the food off the grill, placing it at serving table in batches of 10 or so (4-5, one for each BBQ)
  • “Table 1 & 2” – set up & keep stocked paper plates, napkins and buns. These volunteers will hand a napkin and plate to our guest. They will then move down the line to receive their bun(s) afterwards you would instruct them to step down to the next table (2)
  • “Table 3 & 4” – place the burgers and/or hot dogs on the buns. Also at this station will be the ketchup & mustard bottles. Keep stocked and orderly. Have 1-2 people on hamburgers, 1-2 on hotdogs, 1 for mustard and 1 for ketchup. The simpler the duty the faster the line will move.
  • “Table 5 & 6” – keep stocked with chips & drinks, allowingguests to select one of each (2-3)
  • “Trash patrol” – the BBQ will generate a good deal of trash. Please keep the BBQ area clean. There will be trash bins available on the Campus that the guests will use to throw away their plates and napkins, but a trash patrol person will be helpful in ensuring trash does not blow away or trash cans don’t overflow. (2)
  • “Fillers / Runners” extra volunteers to help keep things stocked, clean-up, general crowd direction, servers for those who are disabled, pregnant or on medication, etc. (3)

BBQ Team:

It is mandatory that all volunteers fill out the One Day/Event Volunteer Form on page 3 of the Blueprint and turn into the campus upon arrival. No proselytizing is allowed on the Human Services Campus. Your Campus representative will be present during the barbeque. The barbeque should be over, cleaned and packed up no later than 5:00 p.m. as guests are required to be off Campus after that time if not staying in the shelter.

Warning:

You and your BBQ crew could be forever changed by this experience. You are not just feeding hungry people a meal; your presence and hospitality to those you serve is an incredible gift – and one you will receive back tenfold. It is also a ton of fun!
