Appendix 1 (possibly as online material): Overview of effect sizes (correlation coefficients) of associations between asymmetry and different measures of stress, health and quality in 94 studies in humans. Measures of stress were classified in 6 outcome categories (A=Attractiveness, D=health (disease), H=hormone, F=Fetal, P=Psychology, R=Reproduction, see text for details). In addition, two studies on genetic diversity (G) are included for completeness, but not analyzed as a separate outcome category because of the few estimates available. Trait types were classified in 3 groups (M=Metric, T=Dental, D=Dermatoglyphic). Metric traits were further subdivided in facial (F) and bodily (B) traits. Number of traits analyzed, sample size, year of publication and study id/reference are also provided. The ‘in or out?’ column indicates which estimates were excluded from the full sample and the final column explains why. The body FA sample consisted of all estimates from the restricted sample (in or out?=in) where bodily FA was measured (facial/body=B).
