HTMS Physical Education Uniform and Grading Policy

  1. Students must dress out in an acceptable gym uniform in order to participate in planned activities. An acceptable uniform is the following:
  2. T-shirt and gym shorts- school colors (red, grey, black, or white) or a school shirt (Spring Fling, Paws & Claws, etc.), with the student’s name and PE period written on the shirt, shorts, and bag with a permanent marker, clearly visible from the front. (Shorts and shirts must not have zippers or buttons)
  3. Socks and enclosed athletic shoes (no CROCS, slip-ons, cleats, spikes, platform shoes, flip-flops, sandals, sperries, or boots). Name should be put somewhere inside shoes so they can be easily identified.
  4. Sweats are optional for cold weather. They should also be marked with the student’s name and PE period visible from the front.
  5. Deodorant should be kept in PE locker to reapply after class each day. Please no spray deoderants.
  6. A student may be excused from participation by having a note from a parent/guardian stating a reason for the excuse. Only three (3) parent excuses are allowed per nine-week grading period. After the third parent note, a doctor’s excuse will be necessary or a zero (0) will be given for non-participation.
  7. A student with a written doctor’s excuse will be assigned an alternative assignment to complete during the period of time of the excuse. This assignment will be graded according to quality, not completion, to count as points equivalent to participation in class. A doctor’s excuse allowing limited participation is encouraged. (Example: if arm is broken, student might walk, keep score, etc.)
  8. Grading Policy:

Dressing Out = 100 points possible

Knowledge Tests/Projects = 400 points possible

Skills Tests = 400 points possible

900 points possible each 9 weeks

  1. 5 points will be deducted from the dressing out grade each day a student does not dress out.
  2. Students rent a gym locker with a lock on it to store their uniforms and shoes in. During class, students use these lockers to put any valuables in and lock them up. The larger lockers are used to store larger items during each PE class. Because they are used every class period, they should be emptied at the end of every class period. Students may not bring a lock from home to put on these lockers.
  3. For your convenience, we sell gym suits, but your child is not required to buy from us. The cost is $10.00 each for shirt and shorts. Purchase must be made in the office and the receipt brought to the student’s PE teacher for gym clothes.
  4. Materials needed for class: You will need to bring a braded folder with loose-leaf paper and a pencil to class by Friday, August 21st. These folders will be used to store study guides and taking notes for tests and other assignments. Students will keep these folders in their PE locker.
