Job Description

Purpose / Role
Develop and deliver content and communicationsfor the EIC across all its news channels, member reports and publications to promote the EIC, the information and services offered by the EIC and the EIC membership.
To act as editor for the bi-annual EIC magazine and EIC news channels to achieve quality content and consistency of message and tone.
Key aims and objectives
  • To act as editor and manage the content, style, production and distribution of the EIC’s bi-annualmagazine, Energy Focus
  • To act as editor and work with the Web and E-marketing Co-ordinator to generate daily news stories for the website andEIC Online(weekly e-newsletter) to ensure its high profile as a professional weekly industry news bulletin, for members and non-members
  • To work with the Web and E-marketing Co-ordinator to develop the EIC website as a primary source for energy data, information and news
  • To work with the Head of Membership and Marketing and the Web and E-marketing Co-ordinator to post positive PR stories and articles using social media
  • To produce EIC’s quarterly contracting activity report, EIC Monitor, and manage its distribution
  • To edit the copy and manage the production of EIC’s sector specific Insight reports and Associate Member reports
  • To promote the EIC and its products and services throughout the media
  • To be the key interface with PR consultants and agencies contracted to the EIC, and to manage relationships with external media contacts
  • To manage the production of the Procurement Guide – the EIC’s annual directory of member supply chain contacts
  • To write and edit topical articles for trade magazines and journals that raise the EIC’s profile
  • To work with the CEO in researching,collating material and drafting copy for publications, announcements and public speaking commitments
  • To write and edit copy for EIC literature as required

Prime responsibilities and duties
  • Work with the Oil & Gas, Power, Nuclear & Renewablesteams and overseas offices plus external news streams,keep abreast of the energy sector globally to integrate and maintain all EIC news channels.Working with the Web and E-marketing Co-ordinator, source daily news stories and post on the EIC website (re-writing where necessary to avoid copyright issues)
  • Develop the above information stream to build the EIC website as a primary source for energy information, both for members and non-members
  • Manage the editorial content for the spring and autumn issues of theEIC’s magazine (Energy Focus), take the lead in organising initial editorial meetings, put forward and collate content ideas and manage the production process. Ensure that Energy Focus is a dynamic publication that adds value to membership, raises EIC’s profile and justifies the cost of production
  • Work with the Oil & Gas and Power, Nuclear & Renewables teams to produce EIC Monitor (contracting activity report) on a quarterly basis and work with the external PR consultant to secure editorial in major energy publications
  • Produce topical editorial for publication in the media that links with the activities, goals and aims of the key stakeholders within the EIC
  • Manage external PR companies contracted to the EIC
  • Manage the annual production of the Procurement Guide to include styling, editorial content and distribution

Core competencies
Essential
  • A degree, or equivalent, and at least 5 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Excellent written, verbal and aural communication skills, with proven experience of writing and editing high quality articles and features
  • Excellent ability to effectively identify key messagesand tailor them for different audiences, to achieve the desired goal
  • Excellent English grammar, proofing skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent relationship management and interpersonal skills with the ability to work well as part of a team with internal departments, external contacts and organisations
  • Excellent project management and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent negotiation skills and diplomacy
  • Proven ability to work independently, respond positively to pressure, juggle conflicting priorities and think spontaneously
  • Excellent advisory skills and confidence to guide and relate well to senior managers

  • Experience of working with graphic designers/creative agencies on publication design and layout
  • Knowledge and experience in using MS Office, InDesign, Photoshop and Acrobat (or similar)
