How to access the Online Public Access Catalogue

Welcome to this introductory session on how to access and use the Online Public Access Catalogue effectively. This is a shared catalogue of all Services Training Providers in WA, in which, the CY O’Connor Institute (CYOCI) Library is a member.

Most of the instructions are supplemented with screenshots to enable the usersto understand the guide easily.

Getting Started

Once in the Internet, type in the Library Catalogue navigation link. See below:

You can access this link anywhereon any computer with Internet access. If you are on the CYOC Northam campus you have free Internet access in the library. However, computers in the library are to be utilised for course related activity only.

The link will take you to the WebVoyage catalogue page where you can search for books and other material using a number of options.

You must log in to WebVoyage in order to access your patron information, to place request, or to be presented with the specific databases that your library allows you to search.

This will give all your personal details. It will list what items are charged under your name. If you want to request for renewal of items, simply click “Request Renewal.” Borrowed items can be renewed once, provided no other patron is requesting the same materials.

AccountingANDHart, this will narrow your search.

  • NOT=If you wish to exclude the last search term as Tertiary NOT

Vocational.

  • OR=Use either Finance OR Accounting. This will broaden your search.

Example of Boolean Operators in use

Searching for Management Accounting as aphrasewithinTitle, using Boolean operator AND, Hart as any of thesewithinAuthor. See print screen below for illustration.

This search has resulted 1 hit only. The Boolean operator AND enabled to narrow the search.

Using the same example, the search has also put a limit by year, location and type which made the search even narrower.

Understanding the results from your Search
