CMiC –RFI Collaboration for Architect/Owner/ Owner Rep

Overview: How to manage the rfiprocess using collaboration:

Using collaboration on a project means Subcontractors, Architects, Owners, Consultants and other Project Business Partners can access CMiC to facilitate efficient flow of information through the system to one another. By using collaboration on projects, more information can be captured, referenced and utilized both during construction and post job completion. While there are various ways collaboration may be used, Swinerton has identified the workflow below as a successful path to process RFI’s on a collaborative project.

Subcontractor Creates a RFI in CMiC

General Contractor Receives RFI, Edits

Forwards to Architect/Owner/Owner Rep for Review

Architect/Owner/Owner Rep Receives & Responds to the RFI

General Contractor Receives Returned RFI

Forwards to Subcontractor:

PART 3: Architect/Owner/Owner RepReceives & Responds to the RFI

  1. Architect/Owner/Owner Rep logs on to CMiC (for instructions see Navigating CMiC for the Collaboration User)
  1. Click the Plus sign to the left of Communication Management on the tree view
  2. Click the RFIs link on the tree view
  3. Click the “Bold” RFI that has been submitted by the General Contractoreither on the tree view or the log view.

NOTE: When you have a new RFI requiring attention, the number of new RFIs will show up in parenthesis in the tree view.

  1. Click theAnswerbutton.

  1. Status: This will default to “Returned”.
  2. Date Answered: This will auto-fill once an answer has been entered
  3. Accept Suggestion button: Use this button if you want to accept the suggestion provided in the RFI.
  4. Answer:Enter the answer in this field if not using the above Accept Suggestion button or edit the accepted suggestion.
  5. Click the Attachments tab and upload any attachments you have. For How To instructions for uploading attachments, please see to Navigating CMiC for the Collaboration User on Swinerton.com or click on the underlined words to link to this document.
  6. Click theSubmit button to return to the General Contractor.

NOTE: You can Redirect the RFI to the applicable in-house responder within your Architectural firm.

  1. Click the Redirect button.
  1. Click the Blue Up Arrow to select the applicable person to redirect the RFI to.
  2. Click the Submit button.

NOTE: Once you click Submit, you will see a note at the bottom of the screen, showing the RFI was Redirect by whom and to whom.
