How to make a shortcut key for changing catalog editing direction

This document will describe how to make a shortcut key which will do “edit > change direction > right to left”.

Background

In the GUI cataloging module when a record is in editing mode it is possible to change the direction of the text on which the cursor is located by choosing menu “edit > change direction” and then choosing “right to left” (or left to right).

Steps to create shortcut key

Alternatively, to ease the work of the cataloger it is possible to make a shortcut key which will activate the “edit > change direction” option automatically. To do this:

1.  Choose a shortcut key which is not yet in use. In this case we will choose F12

2.  Choose menu “ALEPH > Options > Customize”

3.  Select “ACCEL. Configuration”

4.  Do as follows

1.  In the “Menu Items” list scroll down to and select “Change Direction”

2.  In the “Enter New Hot Key” field type F12 (just press the F12 key after your cursor is in the field)

3.  Click “Assign”

4.  Click OK

5.  See that F12 appears in menu next to “edit field”

6.  Put cursor on a field such as 245 and click F12 and see that menu opens

Note:

The above actions added the following line to file C:\AL500\Catalog\tab\eng\accel.dat.

This addition could also have been done manually (without the “ALEPH > Options” menu).
