  • Personal Donations: With a personal donation booksellers can directly affect the lives of other booksellers. Individual donations can easily be made online or by mail and are the life-blood of the Foundation. The assistance your donation makes possible, combined with those of other booksellers across the country illustrates the power of a caring community of bookpeople.

How-to: Donations are easily made by credit/debit card or check.

Online:Visit make a one-time or recurring monthly donation.

By Mail: Donations can be made by check (payable to Binc Foundation) and mailed to

+ Add Ons: Store matches the donations of their employees. ($1 for $1, 50¢ for each dollar, etc.)

  • Sustaining Membership: A bookseller or storejoins as a Sustaining Member to provide valuable support on a monthly basis.

How-to: Employee or store owner signs up for a recurring donation as a Sustaining Member at

The amount chosen is deducted monthly until the donordecides to

change or discontinue.

+ Add Ons: Employees and store could match each other.

EASY

These fundraising ideas are fast and easy to implement. You may already be doing some of these in your store.

  • Author Signing: At in-store author signings have a suggested or set fee of $2-5 designated to be donated toBinc. If the author could speak to the Foundation it would be even more successful.

How-to: Put up a sign and accept donations.At conclusion of event, remit amount raised to Binc.

+ Add Ons: a) Offer a reception or meal with the featured author for a higher fee.

b) Store matches donations collected.

  • Cell Phone Collection: Take advantage of all the old cell phones your employees and customers have around the house. All phones are scrubbed clean of personal data and depending on the age and condition – resold, repurposed or responsibly recycled.

More than $12,000 has been raised recycling phones for Binc!

How-to: Read the easy instructions, then put a box out in your store to collect phones. When you

have at least 25 phones, contact for packing instructions and

shipping label. When the shipping label arrives, send the box and the money comes directly

toBinc.

+ Add Ons: Offer a small discount, coupon, prize or drawing entry ticket for each phone recycled.

  • Charity Day(s):Your store designates a day or days to benefit Binc. A percent of purchases made during that time would be donated to Binc.

How-to: Collect money and remit to Bincat conclusion of event.

+ Add Ons: a) Ask customers to “round up” their purchase to the nearest dollar and deposit difference in jar.

b) Store matches donations collected

  • Collection Jar or Bank in Stores: A simple collection jar or box by the checkout with a simple sign designating the proceeds go to the Binc Foundation.

How-to: Collect money and remit to Binc by check at your convenience.

+ Add Ons: a) Ask customers to “round up” their purchase to the nearest dollar and deposit difference in jar.

b) Store offers to match donations collected.

  • Gift Wrapping: Especially around the holidays a small charge or donation for each book gift wrapped could be designated to the Foundation.

How-to: Collect money and remit to Binc by check at your convenience.

MID-LEVEL

These ideas are a bit more effort, but easily implemented by most stores.

  • Breakfast at the Bookstore: Your bookstore provides a private book review or talk by author or staff or combination, along with pastries and coffee for a small group of friends on a mutually agreed upon date. Book talks may be customized for children or adults, fiction or nonfiction, book clubs, award-winners, or anything you'd like to concentrate on! A fee is charged to cover the cost of refreshments and a donation to Binc.

How-to: Store invites book clubs, local groups to set up a reservation.

+ Add Ons: a)Private shopping can be included at a discount.

b) Store offers to match donations collected.

  • eBay Giving Works: You can help raise money for Binc to assist booksellers in need, while you sell items through our eBay Giving Works page. Simply followthe easy stepson the eBay Giving Works site to designate a percentage of the sale of an item to be donated to the Binc Foundation.

CHALLENGING

This is the most challenging option, but once in place, carries the most long-term, continuous support for the Foundation and for booksellers.

  • Employee Payroll Deduction: Automatic deductions of $1.00 or more are deducted from each employee’s paycheck.
How-to:
oAn employee indicates to their employer that they wish to participate in an automatic payroll deduction for Binc.
  • The employee indicates the level at which they wish to participate ($1 per paycheck, $5 per paycheck, etc.)
  • Employer sets Binc Donation up as a payroll line with their payroll processor
  • The processor deducts the amount from the employee’s check
  • The employer submits payment to Binc on a set frequency on behalf of its employees. (Your payroll processor may even be able to transfer the funds directly via an ACH transfer, making it even easier.)

For the bookstore this is the same method you use for taxes and healthcare accounts. It is a process that is in action already in a number of stores.
