How Successful is Your Club?

Naturally, when you ask a club how they measure success, they’ll likely refer to the number of premierships they’ve won or how many wins they’ve had. It’s often forgotten that much of a club’s on field success starts with their off-field health.

The Swisse AFL Quality Club Program aims to assist all community football clubs with their off-field operations by providing a framework for them to achieve higher standards of club administration and to help create quality environments.

Entry to the program is free and simple, with a 15-minute online assessment required to reach the Bronze standard. Competencies required at this level include having accredited coaches and trainers along with compliance with the relevant childcare and safety standards.

Swisse and the AFL offer various rewards and benefits to recognise clubs engaged in the program. These include:

  • All clubs who accredit or reaccredit at bronze, silver or gold level before the 1st July 2014 are eligible to win one of 50 iPads with an AFL Live subscription;
  • All clubs who reach silver level go in the running to win one of 23 football packs, consisting of six Sherrin Footballs, with one pack being drawn during each round of the 2014 Toyota AFL Premiership Season; and
  • All clubs who reach gold level receive a football equipment pack valued at $1500.

Swisse CEO RadekSali said supporting grassroots football and local Clubs will ensure that Australian Football will remain the premier national code.

“Having played Aussie Rules and being involved in the community club system, I am acutely aware of the need for a solid base to support the sport from the grassroots up,” said Mr Sali.

“We are thrilled to also be making a difference at a community level through the Swisse AFL Quality Club program,” he said.

AFL General Manager - People, Community and Culture, Dorothy Hisgrove, said raising the standard of grassroots clubs was imperative to the continued growth of community clubs around the country.

“Community based clubs are the cornerstone of Australian Football and strong clubs at the grassroots level means a strong game across the board,” Ms Hisgrove said.

“Grassroots football is in excellent health but there is always more that can be done to create welcoming, safe and secure environments for members of the community.

“The Swisse AFL Quality Club program raises the standard across a range of key areas which is good for the game and good for the community,” she said.
