How does our practice develop to meet these challenges?

  • Locality approach – story of place – statistics
  • Workers knowledge important of geographic areas
  • Take time out to do more than just “manage”.

What support is required?

  • Keep HGICLD? – focus on attainment?
  • Step aside?
  • A better understanding of CD
  • Stop being an afterthought to education
  • To recognise us as professionals

Statement of Ambition/Vision on CD

  • Include definitions of Community Engagement, Empowerment, Capacity Building, Development
  • Timescale with end date
  • Promote an understanding of value based Community Development
  • Leadership is “key” to this process
  • We as “experts” have a role in supporting and advising but not “doing” it for them
  • Linking and communicating through “Standards” and “Competencies”
  • Strengthen CD in the revised CE Standards

Workshop 2 – repeat of am workshop

  • Share PB Good Practice and resources
  • Establish “PB Network”
  • Training and support for “CLD” staff and other staff around the Act.
  • Community Growing event 2nd December (Victoria Quay) – invite to be sent out via Peter.
  • Sharing Asset Transfer information – e.g. Moray Council Asset Transfer strategy on Web
  • How do we support people/groups to make participation requests?
  • Organise CLDMS/CD Seminars – on key areas; Asset Transfer, Allotments, PB, participation request
  • We need to start doing the ground work (build on what we already do)
  • Ian Turner – offered to attend events./seminars on Act.
  • There will be consultation on the guidance
  • How do we do this with the level of cuts in CLD across Scotland – Who will do the work?

What can CLD do? (Re CE Act)

  • PB a vehicle for local democracy
  • PB beyond involvement in grant giving, also about shaping services
  • Ways of encouraging groups who wouldn’t normally apply for £ - eg encouraging young people to develop video bids (Aberdeen)
  • Giving communities the skills to get involved in decisions for PB
  • Supporting colleagues in engagement/participation skills for PB
  • Champions for broadening PB – beyond Council area budgets.
  • Encouraging/Supporting communities to participate in joined up local service planning
  • How can we engage communities in the different aspects of the Act? An area of development for CLDMS
