How do I get involved on campus?

So you have completed the first couple of weeks at the University of Rhode

Island and academically things are going well. However, your social life has been dull

and it seems like everyone is fitting in except for me. You also have some spare time

and simply do not know what to do with yourself. The solution: Get involved at URI!

Attached to this paper is a complete list of URI’s student organizations/clubs so please

take a few minutes to read over the list. Then try to find and talk with what

organizations/clubs you are interested in at the Student Involvement Fair.

Club/Organization

Meeting Times

What do they do?

1.

2.

3.

When joining a club/organization, ask yourself these questions:

What is the time requirement and are there mandatory events?

What are the organizations values, goals, beliefs, and do they coincide withyour own?

What do I like to do for fun? Is there anything that specifically relates to it?

Is there an executive board? Are any positions open and can freshmenapply?

Is it a social club? Fraternity or Sorority? An organization related to yourmajor?

Will joining this club/organization make my time at URI more enjoyable?

Remember…joining a student organization is your choice and no one should feelpressured to join one right away. Attend as many meetings from different organizationas you can to get a feel for what URI has to offer. Please ask your URI 101 studentinstructor any questions, no matter how specific, about involvement on campus.
