How Can I get Meals?

Call Devils Lake Senior Meals & Services at (701)662-5061. You will be asked basic information to determine eligibility for HDM or Congregate meals. Should you qualify; meals will start as soon as arrangements can be made. For Congregate meals please call the day before to let us know you would like to eat. /

Nutrition Programs are made up of 2 parts:

Home Delivered Meals:

These are meals delivered to homebound older adults 60 and over (often referred to as Meals on Wheels).
Who is Eligible:
  • You can no longer be driving
  • 60 and over or the spouse of someone 60 and over, Homebound due to health reasons.
  • Physically or emotionally unable to attend a meal site
  • Difficulty preparing meals at home.
Senior Dining (Congregate):
Where older adults gather together for nutritious meals and fellowship. Anyone 60 or over can come for a congregate meal.

What Is the Cost?

You are not “charged” for a meal, but a suggested Contributionis suggested to help defray program costs. The suggested contribution rate as of September 23, 2016, for a meal is $4.00 per meal if you are 60andolder. You may contribute more or less depending on your financial situation. The actual cost for a Home Delivered and Congregate meal is $8.30. /

Funding:

Senior Meals has a contract with the State of ND that provides funding to help defray costs up to a certain amount. Once we have met our contracted amount of meals, we receive no more funds from the state and then we need to supplement meals by fundraising. Without sufficient funding to provide a basic unit rate for all of the meals we serve, agencies will have to set limits on the number of meals we can provide, implement waiting lists, or even closing meal sites.
