Dear ARM Applicant:

To be eligible to apply for a position, you must meet the following requirements:

Job Qualifications Requirements:

·  You must be registered as a full time student at Western Connecticut State University for the Spring 2018 semester.

·  All applicants must be in good academic standing at the University and have and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or greater, as well as maintain satisfactory academic progress (SAP).

·  You must be in good judicial standing. This means that you must have had no incidents that would cause you to be on judicial probation for the 2017-2018 academic year.

·  You must have completed one semester at Western Connecticut State University (this requirement may be waived at the discretion of the department).

·  You must have completed 24 applicable college credits (this requirement may be waived at the discretion of the department).

Application Requirements:

·  You must turn in a hard copy of your application to the housing office by 4pm on, November 10th, 2017 (applications must be received and time stamped by 1:00pm – NO EXCEPTIONS). All applicants will receive a confirmation email upon receipt of their application. After submitting your application, if you do not receive a confirmation email within 48hrs of submission, you must follow up with the Selection Chairs (Kevin Brenzel or Shevy Booze).

·  Please use the Recommendation Form (attached below) for recommendation letters. A minimum of two (maximum of 3) letters must be emailed in PDF format to Kevin Brenzel () directly from the individuals writing the recommendations.

Recommendations cannot be made by family members nor any member of the Housing and Residence Life staff. This includes RAs, ARMs, RDs and the Central Housing Staff,

o  Applications are not considered complete unless recommendation forms are received by the application due date (Friday, November 10, 2017 at 4:00pm).

·  You must attach a current resume with your application.

·  You will use the program planner (attached) to plan a WCSU Success program with an example of how you would publicize for this program. Bring one copy of each to the interview. DO NOT attach this with your application.

o  A WCSU Success program is defined as:

§  Increasing student’s awareness of resources and services available on campus to aid in their success here at Western in and outside the classroom. For example, host the math emporium at your program to educate your residents about what they do on campus and how it can help them.

1.  Your request for building/room placement is not guaranteed. The Housing and Residence Life Department reserves the right to place RAs and ARMs where the need is and where an individual’s skills are best utilized.

2.  The Office of Housing and Residence Life will only retain students who currently satisfy the requirement for GPA and judicial standing. In the event that your GPA falls below a 3.2 or your judicial standing changes, Housing reserves the right to revoke your offer for employment.

3.  In order to be considered you must submit a confirmed application and fulfill all mandatory obligations.

If you are currently receiving financial aid and/or plan to next semester, there is a possibility your aid will be affected if you receive the ARM position. Please see the Financial Aid Office to investigate your circumstances.

Academic Resource Mentors (ARMs) are members of the Department of Housing and Residence Life at Western Connecticut State University. ARMs have responsibilities to the entire residence hall while focusing more specifically on students who fall under the GPA requirement for Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). They play an integral role in the establishment of an environment conducive to maximum academic and personal development. ARMs also seek to promote a sense of community within the residence hall fostered by individual responsibility, mutual respect, and the pursuit of mutual interests.
