Hours: 15 hours per week all year round.

Salary: Hay 8 point 27, £23,836, pro rata £9,663 (15 hrs)

Purpose of the role: The Children and Young People’s Outreach Worker provides practical and emotional support and advocacy for children, young people and their carers to support them to deal with the effects of domestic abuse. The post holder has a case load, undertakes support planning, delivers tailored support to children and young people and also liaises with and signposts their parents / carers to further support. She works work at a multi-agency level to ensure good outcomes for families and works closely with the Children and Young People’s team and wider staff team at Survive.

  • To uphold all policies and procedure of Survive.

Main duties and responsibilities:

Operational

  1. To provide practical and emotional support to children, young people (CYP) to support their recovery from domestic violence and abuse.
  2. To manage an outreach case load, undertaking support planning, reviews, risk assessments and safety plans and upholding reporting and statistical requirements.
  3. To provide support to parents and carers to develop an understanding of the impact of domestic violence and abuse and work to improve their ability to support recovery and improve the family’s relationships.
  4. To advocate for children and young people with statutory agencies, particularly schools and in multi-agency forums to represent their needs and work towards improved well being for the family.
  5. To undertake co-working with other agencies as necessary and to support service users in accessing community facilities.
  6. To liaise with other staff on a day-to-day basis regarding the CYP’s and women’s welfare as required.
  7. To oversee, support and mentor volunteers involved on a day to day basis.
  8. To maintain clear and accurate records on the case management system.
  9. To implement and adhere to the policies and procedures of the agency including confidentiality, health and safety and equal opportunities.
  10. To participate with other staff to provide occasional cover to the admin and support lines at Survive to ensure a quality service at the first point of contact.

  4. To ensure personal knowledge is up to date with key legislative and legal requirements.
  5. To raise the profile of Survive through active involvement in and networking with relevant organisations and forums.
  6. To support Survive’s fundraising through active promotion of events and involvement in fundraising events wherever possible.
  7. To undertake any other duties as directed by the line manager that may reasonably fall within the scope of the post.

Person Specification

Experience

  1. At least1 year’s full time, or equivalent experience (including with children) of work in a relevant field.
  2. At least 1 year’s experience of relevant support work.
  3. Experienced in multi-agency working.
  4. An understanding of and experience in working with child protection issues.
  5. Experiencing of organising, planning and evaluating own work.

Knowledge

  1. An understanding of domestic abuse, including the causes and impacts on children.
  2. An understanding of equal opportunities and an ability to implement this in practice.
  3. A level 4 qualification in a relevant field i.e. social work, psychology, children’s work, teaching or a level 4 qualification in a different field with an additional 2 years relevant experience.
  4. Understanding of health and safety issues, especially those relating to domestic abuse and lone-working.

  1. An ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  2. Effective listening, communication (including written) and interpersonal skills.
  3. Ability to manage difficult behaviour in a calm and professional manner.
  4. Excellent time management skills.
  5. The emotional and physical stamina to deliver good work under pressure.

  7. Ability to work flexible hours including availability to do out of hours work including evenings.
