Competition Eligibility: This competition is sanctioned by U.S. Figure Skating.
TheSTATEGAMESofAMERICA2017–FIGURESKATINGCOMPETITION(USFS)willbeconductedinaccordancewiththerules and regulations of U.S. Figure Skating, as set forth in the current rulebook, as well as any pertinent updates which have been posted on the U.S. Figure Skatingwebsite.
This competition is open to all eligible, restricted, reinstated or readmitted persons as defined by the Eligibility Rules, and is a currently registered member of a U.S. Figure Skating member club, a collegiate club or an individual member in accordance with the current rulebook.
NON-MICHIGAN RESIDENTS - All gold, silver and bronze medalists from National Congress of State Games Member State programs held between July 2, 2015 and July 1, 2017. Also all medalists from the 2015 National State Games in Omaha, NE.
MICHIGAN RESIDENTS - All Michigan residents are eligible to participate. Should space become limited, priority will be given to Michigan residents who have medaled in 2015 and/or 2016. Additional criteria, in rank order include: participation in 2015 and 2016 State Games of Michigan (Grand Rapids Open).
Skaters must also be in good standing with U.S. Figure Skating. Age and test status as of July 1, 2017 determines skater’s level.
Test Level:Competition level is the highest test passed as of the entry deadline in the discipline the skater is entering. Entrants may skate one level above that for which they qualify, but they may not skate down in any event. Theater on Ice teams and Synchronized Skating teams may not skate up a level, but must enter the division that reflects their member’s test level as of the cutoff date for entries. Skaters who placed in the top four in a final round of their last qualifying competition in their divisions must move up one level, except for novice and higher.
Age Restrictions/Requirements: Skaters entering Juvenile Free Skate events (Well Balanced Program) must be under 14 years of age at the close of entries. Skaters entering Open Juvenile Free Skate events (Well Balanced Program) must be at least 14 years of age at the close of entries. Skaters entering Beginner through Pre-Juvenile events will be divided as closely as possible by age should the number of entries warrant more than one group.
Scoring:
All events will be scored using the 6.0 system.
FACILITIES
The competition will be held at Patterson Ice Center which is located at:
2550 Patterson Avenue SE, GrandRapids, MI 49546. The rink phone number is: 616.940.1423.
Patterson Ice Center is a two rink indoor facility with ice surfaces of 200' x 85'. A snack bar will be open,
and various vendors will be offering items for sale. There are numerous restaurants and stores located
within one mile of the rink. Many of these businesses will be offering discounts to skaters and families
during the competition weekend.

All registered athletes receive a complimentary Super Pass in the athlete packet. Additional Super Passes for spectators and family members can be purchased for $20 at SGA2017.com/Admissions. The Super Pass gains free admission to all SGA 2017 events and venues, athlete villages and competition sites as well as provides 1 general admission ticket and 1 athlete admission ticket to the Opening Ceremonies. One chaperone per skater will receive free admission at Patterson Ice Center.

AWARDS: Custom State Games of America gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each event.
CHECK-IN:Eventcheck-inwillbeopenat Patterson Ice Center at least one hourbeforethefirsteventandrunthroughthelasteventofthe day. The check-in table will be located inside Patterson Ice Center, at the main reception area. Official State Games of America check-in will be located at the Athlete's Village in downtown Grand Rapids. More details regarding the official check-in will be emailed to all participants.
COACHES: Registered figure skating coaches will receive a special Coach Pass, which will give them access to Patterson Ice Arena during the competition. Only registered coaches with a Coach Pass and appropriate USFS credentials will be allowed at the venue.

$25 - for each returned check or contested credit card(Only cash will be accepted for this fee.)
Entry fees will not be refunded for any reason unless no competition exists or is cancelled. No exceptions will be made. There will be no refunds for medical withdrawals. Online processing fees are not refundable. Checks returned for non-sufficient funds will be assessed a $25 fee. Payment of the fee will be required before skater is allowed to participate in practice ice or events.
INFORMATION REGARDING COACHES: U.S. Figure Skating Rule MR 5.11 Coach Registration
For Basic Skills ONLY Coaches - Any person, 18 and older, instructing in a U.S. Figure Skating Basic Skills Program must have successfully passed the annual background screen and be registered.
If a coach cannot provide a photo I.D. and is not on the list or cannot produce the necessary documents, he or she will not be allowed a credential – no exceptions. We strongly urge all coaches to have their cards with them. Non-credentialed coaches will not be permitted in the designated coaching area at rink side during events including practice sessions. Coaching at U.S. Figure Skating events without compliance is an ethics violation which is reported to U.S. Figure Skating and PSA. For more information regarding Coach Compliance, please refer to:

Notice for Teams: Creating a block of rooms for your team is the wise thing to do, and easy too! This will block rooms for your entire team, without requiring you, as the coach, to secure all the rooms on your personal credit card or signing a contract.
Your team will be provided with your own URL to access the rooms in your block, preventing others from accessing your set aside rooms. Each participant can then go in and reserve the room, using their own credit card and make any special requests they need. For travel and hotel assistance, you may also call 844-554-8810 (toll-free).

MUSIC: The official competition music must be turned in at the registration table at the time of check-in. A duplicate CD should be readily available. Music may be picked up at the registration table following each event. Every reasonable care will be taken, but the State Games of America cannot be responsible for CDs left at the end of the competition. Please have separate CDs for practice and competition. Music for Solo Patten Dance and Pro-Am Dance will be provided, if appropriate.
OFFICIAL NOTICES: An official bulletin board will be maintained at Patterson Ice Center, as well as the State Games of America 2017 website. It is the responsibility of each competitor, parent and coach to check the bulletin board frequently for any schedule changes and/or additional information. Skaters are requested to arrive 45 minutes prior to the scheduled time of their event. A tentative schedule of events will be posted prior to the competition.

PRACTICE ICE: Practice ice will be available based on the final competition schedule and may be purchased online through Entryeeze. More information on practice times will be posted on Entryeeze throughout the registration process. Practice ice will be sold for $15 per 20 minute session (pre-sale) or $20 at the door.
