Job Description

POSITION:School cleaner

SALARY SCHEME:Kent Range 2

REPORTS TO:Site Manager / Head Teacher

HOURS OF DUTY:10 hours per week ( 38Weeks per year)

5 days (Monday to Friday), plus three weeks during spring and summer cleans and five teaching training days by arrangement with the Site Manager.

Holidays are to be taken outside of normal school term dates.

SUMMARY OF JOB:To provide a comprehensive cleaning service to include dusting, vacuuming, washing floors, emptying bins etc. to ensure high standards of cleanliness and hygiene at all times.

Use scrubbing/ polishing / steaming machines (after receiving instructions and training).

The Site Manager and the cleaning team as a whole are responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness throughout the school.

Each cleaner will be responsible for an area and will be expected to clean to the frequency and standard set out.

At the direction of the Head Teacher or Site Manager, cleaning staff will clean others areas as requested.

Periodically the Head Teacher will also carry out spot checks on any aspect of cleanliness he feels is appropriate.

Main duties:

  • To carry out cleaning work to the standard listed in the “Cleaners guidelines and standards” booklet as instructed by the Site manager.
  • To report to the Site Manager or Head Teacher, matters that are likely to affect their work or other matters they consider line-managers should be made aware of.
  • To use cleaning materials appropriately and economically; to inform the Site Manager when stocks are low.
  • To ensure that all equipment is in good working order, report any faults to the Site Manager.
  • To ensure that the cleaner’s cupboard is kept clean and tidy and locked when children are on the school site.
  • To use only approved cleaning materials in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and COSHH regulations. To be aware of Health & Safety responsibilities of themselves and others.
  • To attend all Health & Safety training courses as determined by the Site Manager or the Head Teacher.
  • To maintain confidentiality at all times in respect of school related matters and to prevent disclosure of confidential information.
