Course Description: World History is a two-semester course that will examine the history of Western Civilization with special emphasis on the growth of the political, economic, and social institutions of Europe and the relationship of past events to current situations.

The course will begin with an introduction of World Religions, Renaissance, and Reformation. Then our studies will continue with the Scientific Revolution, the Enlightenment and move through the French Revolution, Nationalism in Europe, the Industrial Revolution, the Age of Imperialism, World War I, World War II and the Cold War.

Course Objectives:

·  Students will understand the principals and processes of government systems.

·  Students will gain knowledge of continuity and change in the history of the world.

·  Students will be proficient in the knowledge of economic concepts and principals.

·  Students will gain knowledge in the major elements of geographical study and analysis and their relationship to changes in society and the government.

·  Students will understand the relationships of individuals and groups to instututions and cultural traditions.

·  Students will be proficient in the use of tools of social science inquiry such as surveys, statistics, maps, and documents.

Course Requirement:

Throughout the school year, honors World History students will be working on a series of Document Based Questions which will also be used as reflective opportunities for students to examine their development in writing and analyzing primary sources. For this class each student is required to have at least a 1-inch binder, paper, and dividers, This binder will be a major part of his or her final grade for the quarter and semester. Students are expected to have their binder no later than Monday, August 26th.

 All students are expected to attend class everyday on time and remain awake and participatory for the entire time class is in session. (unless excused by the office).

 All students are expected to bring all necessary materials to class everyday. Failure to bring materials to class will result in disciplinary action according to the school handbook. These materials include:

-Notebook

-Writing utensils

-Paper for note taking

 All students are expected to comply with school policy regarding electronic devices at school.

All students are expected to uphold a high level of RESPECT in the classroom. This includes respect for their classroom, their teacher, their peers and themselves.

Make-Up Policies

IV: Make-Up Policy

All students who have an excused absence are responsible for collecting make up work upon their return to school. This includes All notes, focus questions, planner items, and handouts and assignments.

*Late Work Policy: Students who do not complete assignments by the day they are due will have until the end of the unit to turn in their assignments for 50% credit. Once the unit has ended and the test has been completed, make up work for that unit will no longer be accepted.

*Redo Policy: Each student will be allowed no more than 1 redo opportunities on either assignments, projects, papers or tests for each semester. In order to be given the chance for a redo, students must submit a redo application which they can obtain from Mrs. Isaacson. Approval for redos will be based on the willingness of the student to work towards improving their score, rather than just giving the test a second shot.»

*Regarding Tests: Students who know they are going to be absent the day of the test should make an appointment with the teacher to take the test prior to the absence. If you have an unexpected absence and were aware of the test date prior to the absence you will be expected to take the test the day it was originally scheduled. Those who are excused and miss a testing day will be expected to take the test within 3 class periods of their return.

Discipline Policy: The discipline policy within the classroom will be in compliance with the discipline policy set by the Windsor C-1 School District in regards to behavior, tardies and missing assignments. Please consult the student handbook with any questions you may have.
