Honors/Scholars Biology Marking Period Project: The ABC Book of Biology

Value: 1 test grade (100 points)

Due date: Friday December 22nd

Your favorite teacher (Ms. DeCandia)is forced to miss class the next few days. Shewas supposed to create ABC books of Biologyto present to younger students to get them interested in science. There is a deadline for the project and there’s no way she can get the books done on time. You must make these books.

Please don’t let me down – I am depending on you!!!!

What needs to be done:

  • Work at your lab table with your lab partner. You will both receive the same grade for the project.
  • Using your book or notes, you must find a word that relates to this classfor each letter of the alphabet.
  • The words must come from the chapters listed on pdecandia.com.
  • You cannot use more than two words per each chapter listed on pdecandia.com.
  • Each page of the book must contain the following:

- front of book should be a cover page with the title of book, your names and class period

- the letter in large print

- the word (spelled correctly), large print

- the definition of the word in a full sentence

- a picture related to the word

- the word used in a sentence, underneath the picture

  • You may hand-write or type the information in Word.
  • The picture/graphic may be hand-drawn or digital.
  • The book may be made from regular 8x11 white paper folded in half for each page, or if you wish, construction paper (you must supply this).

Using these words, create a 26-page book, with one page for each letter of the alphabet. Each word should be accurately spelled, described and have a picture and sentence that goes along with it.

Be artistic!!Be colorful!! Be creative!! If you can’t draw, you can find computer graphics and bring them into school to paste into the book. (NO GLITTER!!)

***** If the book is handwritten it must be VERY NEAT.*****

You may use colored pencils, markers, and any other artistic materials you wish.

You may bring in any supplies you wish to use in creating your book.
I will supply colored pencils, glue, scissors and white paper.
MAKE SURE TO RETURN ITEMS AT THE END OF THE PERIOD.

This is a group activity so make sure both partners work on the book equally. You only have 9 days to finish the project, so you may need to work on it at night. Discuss the workload with your partner. The substitute teacher will collect your books at the end of class on Friday December22nd.
