 Distribution Area #1: Humanities and Fine Arts (9cr.). Students with first teaching fields in Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, General Science, Mathematics, Physical Science, Physics, Journalism, Political Science, and Social Science Comprehensive must complete courses in this area.

Two courses (3 credits each) from two different humanities areas and one introductory or appreciation course (3 credits) from a fine arts area. Humanities courses must be selected from any ENG lit. course, foreign languages, HIST (or ethnic studies if cross-listed with history), PHI (except PHI 102, 105, or 109), AAD 101, COM 101, 211, or 216, or WMST 113* (or any WMST course cross-listed with ENG lit, foreign languages, HIST or PHI). Fine Arts courses must be selected from AAE 100, AAI 100, AAL 100, ART 160, 101, 107, 111, 112, 135, 260, 261, 216, DAN 100, 101, 103, 104, 165, 166/AAS 166, FIS 100, 110, MUS 101, 121, 125, 127, 129, 130, 134, 176, or THTR 100, 105, 124, 175.

Humanities: HON 190 / 3cr.

 Distribution Area #2: Life and Physical Sciences and Analytical Thinking (9-10cr.). Students with first teaching fields in History, Journalism, Political Science, Social Science Comprehensive, Art, English Comprehensive, English and American Lit., French, German, Spanish, Speech Communications, and Theatre Arts/Drama must complete courses in this area. Two courses from the life and physical sciences (at least one of which must include a lab), typically for a total of 7 credits, and one 3-credit course in logic. Options for science include: Astronomy, ANTH 102, 110L, biology, NUTR 121, chemistry (except 103), EGG 100, ENS 100, ENV 100, physical geography, geology (except GEY 480), or physics.

One course from 3 different fields, selected from: AAS (except AAS courses cross-listed with ENG or HIST); ETS (except ETS courses cross-listed with ENG or HIST); ANTH (except ANTH 102); COU 117, 360; CRJ 104, 270, 435, 436, 438, or 469; CST 200; ECON; ECG 307, HED 165, 429, 435; LAS 101; PSC, SOC; WMST 113* or WMST courses cross-listed with any of the above areas. Statistics courses excluded. Do NOT take PSY courses here.
