Science is a multifaceted subject. Students will be exposed to a variety of instructional methods.

Assessments:

The student's command of the subject material will be assessed using the following:

•  Assignments including a combination of textbook assignments and worksheets.

•  Laboratory reports.

•  Tests, quizzes, and problem solutions

•  Computer-based activities

•  Project assignments.

•  Participation in class discussions.

•  Oral, video, and computer-based presentations

Grading:

Quarter grades will be calculated as follows:

o  Tests – 30%

o  Quizzes – 15%

o  Classwork / Homework – 10%

o  Lab Reports – 25%

o  Projects – 20%

CLASSROOM POLICIES

Passes

Students will be given two emergency passes per 9 weeks to use for any event that requires them to leave the classroom. Any unused passes at the conclusion of the quarter will be worth 5 pts. added to any test. Once both passes have been used, the student must have a doctor’s note on file with the school nurse in order to leave the classroom.

Bellwork

Students will be given five minutes after the tardy bell to complete their bellwork. Students will be given a weekly bellwork grade every Friday. Unexcused tardies (late without a teacher note) will result in a missed bellwork grade for that day. Bellwork CANNOT be made up. You automatically receive credit for missed bellwork if you have an excused absence. An unexcused absence will result in a missed bellwork grade.

Bellwork Grading Scale: 5 grades = 100% 4 grades= 80%

3 grades = 60%

2 grades = 40%

1 grade = 20%

Class, School and District Policy

•  District and School Policy will be adhered to in regards to absences, make-up work, cell-phones, tardies, grading policy and student behavior.

Late Work / Make-Up Work

Late work will be accepted for 20% off each day up to three days past the original due date. NO EXCEPTIONS !!! Students will only be permitted to turn in make-up work if their absence is excused. Students will be responsible for all missed work during their absence. Students are also responsible for downloading or accessing any Power points, worksheets, and answer keys on my webpage during their absence. I will not provide any hard copies of missed assignments, nor will I take any class time to deliver make-up work.

Materials:

·  Lab Journal ( 1 subject notebook with a minimum of 100 sheets)

·  Class Folder ( 3 prongs with 2 pockets)

·  Calculator

·  Graph Paper

·  Earphones

·  Lap-tops (only permissible when given permission from the teacher)

Extra Credit:

Extra credit passes will be given at the beginning of each quarter, worth 10 pts added to a test. Extra credit will not roll over if not used. No concessions for lost extra credit passes will be given.

Laptops:

Laptops use in class will follow the Bartlett City School District Bring Your Own Device Policy http://www.bartlettschools.org/forms/byod_agreement/index.jsp

Laptops may only be open when given permission by the teacher.

Technology, Websites, and Class codes

Students will be allowed and encouraged to use their own cell phones, in addition to their laptops when given permission in class. Students are expected to bookmark the websites on their laptops and download all educational apps on their cell phones. We will be utilizing the following websites this year:
