Evaluation A test will be given at the conclusion of each chapter with announced and unannounced quizzes during each chapter. A comprehensive final examination will be given in June.
Also, the SAT II exam in chemistry is administered in June – extra clinics are provided to help you prepare to score well. Please consider taking this exam in preparation for college admissions.
Grading All grading is done on a % of total basis. Points from test, quizzes, labs, and assignments are totaled and grades assigned according recommended
school percentages for “A”,”B”, etc. Report card grades will be entered
with a +/- when appropriate to indicate the strength of the grade.
Please note that since this is an honors class, tests and quizzes will count for 75% of each marking period grade. The remaining percentage will come from labs, homework, and class work.
Please check HAC/SAC frequently for your current grade. Grades are entered as assignments are completed and turned in.
Homework Homework will be assigned and checked regularly. No credit will be given for late homework. Success in chemistry depends on a continued effort towards completing assignments. If a circumstance arises that
prevents the completion of an assignment, please speak to me privately.
If there is no formal homework assignment given, it is expected that students will spend 15 minutes on chemistry. This may include; reviewing notes, reading the textbook, working on the chapter homework assignment or online tutorials.
Labs Most chapters will contain one lab activity. Evaluation of the lab may be in the form of a lab report, and/or a quiz. One lab report per marking period may be exempted for a grade, if the lab was missed due to an absence.
Return of All graded homework and lab reports will be returned to students.
Assessments Tests and quizzes will be returned to students, reviewed in class and then collected by the teacher until all make-up tests are completed. After all make-up tests are completed, students may request to take possession of their quiz/test papers.
Any district assessment (ex: final exam) is not available for student possession. These assessments will be indicated in HAC with an
asterisk (*)
Student Absence Students are responsible to investigate the work they missed due to absence by checking with a classmate and consulting with the instructor at school. Please understand that e-mail requests for missing work may take longer than would be practical for students. Students should obtain the phone numbers/e-mail addresses of reliable fellow students if they wish to obtain information regarding work prior to the day they return to school.
Extra Help I am available for help after school unless a meeting requires my attendance. Students should inform the instructor if they plan to attend clinic so they can be made aware if the instructor has another school obligation.
Conduct Students are expected to treat others with respect and follow all rules of the school and classroom. Students are also required to be aware of and
follow all safety rules of the laboratory.
Food and drink are not permitted at any time!
Cell phone and IPOD/MP3 use is not permitted at any time. If a student is using their electronic device during class, it will be confiscated and turned into the appropriate grade level principal.
