Arizona law requires that public schools provide supplies required for academic success. The majority of the supplies your child will use in the classroom will be provided by the school. The list is a wish list of optional items desired for each student in each grade level. Any student unable to bring any of the listed items will be provided with supplies.
GRADES:
Grades will consist of quizzes, labs, projects, tests and occasional homework.
STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. You must attend class, be prepared and be an active participant in the learning process.
2. You are responsible for your own homework and make-up work. It is your grade and you will be responsible for keeping track of it.
3. Working together (not cheating) is encouraged and required in this class. Any students caught cheating will have consequences, and could likely result in the student(s) receiving a zero. Plagiarism will result in a zero.
LAB SAFETY GUIDELINES:
Students are expected to follow all procedures provided by the teacher, both written and orally. No unauthorized experiments are permitted. Any misuse of equipment or supplies and/or any improper or dangerous behaviors will result in immediate discipline action, possibly resulting in a zero for the lab and a referral. If a student is absent on the day of a laboratory experiment, the student will have to come in after school on the next scheduled tutoring day to make-up the experiment or make an appointment with the teacher.
QUIZZES AND UNIT EXAMS:
Unit Exams consist of many questions that are multiple choice and/or short answer. Students will receive a copy of the expected learning by standards at the beginning of each unit. These are a tool to help guide them through the unit as well as study for the unit exam. Students who miss an exam due to illness or other excused reason will also be required to test or retest during class the day of their return or through arrangements made with the teacher.
HOMEWORK, ABSENCES,LATE WORK/MAKE-UP WORK POLICY:
- Homework is due on the following day unless otherwise noted. Homework needs to be properly labeled and out on the student’s desk when the bell rings. Any work due the day you were absent is due the day you return to class. Late assignments will not qualify for a retake. Late assignments would qualify for 1/2 credit if the student turns in the assignment prior to the 4 week cut-off for making up assignments.
- Students are strongly encouraged to attend class regularly. If a student is absent it is the student’s responsibility to complete any assignment, lab or exam that was missed. When a student is absent, they have the number of days that they were absent to turn in the missing assignment or take a test. (Example:If the student is absent on Monday and Tuesday, returning to school on Wednesday, the student would have until Friday to make up missing work.) As long as the assignment/test is accomplished within the absence window, the task is considered to be "on time," the student can redo the assignment/test. The student would still need to meet the criteria for re-takes as outlined in the retake policy.
RETAKE POLICY (per District Policy):
Retakes are allowed for all assignments and assessments except for final exams. There are time limits for all retakes. Retakes must be completed within 4 weeks of the due dateor by the end of the quarter.
- Student score in the grade book will be whichever score is higher, the original or the retake.
