Honorary GRAND MASHAL

Timothy Fox, the son of Edward Fox and Patricia Fox was born in Brooklyn in 1976. His father’s family roots can be traced back to Ireland, in particular County Cork. Timothy was raised in Windsor Terrace, Brooklyn and spent many summers as a young child in Breezy Point. As a youth, he attended Immaculate Heart of Mary Grammar school in Brooklyn and graduated from Xaverian High School in Brooklyn in 1994. From there he continued his education at John Jay College in NYC and Saint Francis College in Brooklyn.

Timothy is proud of his Irish heritage and looks forward to the Queens County Rockaway parade. He always felt that this was the official start to Saint Patrick’s Month. He marched in his first parade alongside his father as a young child in Brooklyn’s Irish American Parade.

Timothy and his brotherEdward were strongly encouraged by their father to pursue a career incivil service. In September of 2000, he began his career as a Sanitation Worker. On the first day of employment, Timothy joined the DSNY Emerald Society. It was with the Emerald Society that Timothy quickly learned that he did not have to go far to be with fellow Irishmen involved in community and charity work, or to join together to talk shop and have a hearty laugh.

Timothy has held numerous positions within the Emerald Society. Heis currently the 4th Vice President of the 1,000 plus membership and was instrumental in establishing the relationship with the Boomer Esiason Foundation “Fighting Cystic Fibrosis”, which is now the Emerald Society’s charity of choice. Since 2000, Tim has stepped onto 5th Avenue proudly representing not only the Emerald Society but his family and friends, he continues to be proud of his Irish heritage and the long standing traditions of the country’s oldest and grandest parade. On March 17, 2011, Tim was honored as the Aide to the Marshal for the Department’s Emerald Society in the NYC Saint Patrick’s Day Parade. In his leisure time, Timothy attends many other Irish Parades and events city wide.

With the help of the Emerald Society study sessions for the Supervisor’s exam, Timothy was promoted to the rank of Supervisor on February 4, 2007. His leadership ability and commitment led to his assignment; as the Cleaning Operations and Special Events Supervisor. It was here under the direction of former Chief of Cleaning Michael Bellew (a former Deputy Grand Marshal) and the current Chief of Cleaning Douglas Marsiglia wherehe helped oversee and manage the day-to-day street cleaning operations of one of the nation’s largest and most productive cleaning workforce. In this capacity, he helped develop Department policy and procedures for street cleaning, he coordinates and collaborates with other City agencies to implement citywide initiatives impacting quality-of-life issues, he oversees the daily cleaning of 6,000 miles of city streets, ensures the completion of 1537 street cleaning routes weekly, and the collection of over 25,000 litter baskets. One of the greatest challenges he faces each year is the daunting task of coordinating personnel and equipment resources to successfully clean the following world renown venues for the pleasure and enjoyment millions of viewers and participants; Times Square New Years Eve Cleanup, NYC Marathon, Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Fifth Avenue and the Rockaway’s’ St. Patrick’s Day Parade. One of his biggest accomplishments was working with Chief Douglas Marsiglia to organize the NY Giants 2011 Super Bowl Champions parade down thecanyon of Heroes.

On September 24, 2012 Timothy was promoted to the rank of General Superintendent Level 1 and is currently assigned to the Borough of Manhattan. He credits the Emerald Society study sessions on helping achieve his goal of scoring high on the exam.

Most recently,in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, Timothy oversaw operations in Howard Beach, Broad Channel, Rockaway, Breezy Point, and Roxbury. With ties to the Rockaway and Breezy communities, Timothy immediately requested to be assignedthe task of helping to run the Hired Equipment operation to get the communities back on their feet.

Timothy is proudly married to Desiree, and in March of 2012 they welcomed their newborn son Braeden Thomas Fox. Timothy looks forward to the day he can march in future Irish parades alongside Braeden as he once did with his father.
