ROLE DESCRIPTION

Role Title / ATSM Officer
Reporting to / Advanced Training Committee

Purpose and Description of Role
1.  To keep the curriculum content and workplace-based assessment of the ATSMs under review.
2.  To advise on issues relating to ATSM programmes, delivery of ATSM training and ATSM curricula.
3.  To review update and realign current ATSMs.
4.  To be a member of the Advanced Training Committee and be involved in developing modular training for UK trained doctors and overseas specialists.
5.  To ensure the system for the quality assurance of ATSM programmes is ongoing.
6.  To monitor the learning and assessment support specific to ATSM training to the Education Support Group (for example eLearning).
Main Responsibilities
1.  To provide advice to trainees, trainers and the ATSM Directors in respect of delivery of ATSM.
2.  To liaise with local ATSM Directors, to ensure they are fully appraised of developments in ATSM training and to advise on any issues raised
3.  To offer advice to the Education Quality Assurance Committee (EQAC) to ensure that the appropriate relevant courses are in place for each ATSM.
4.  To oversee the development of new ATSMs in liaison with the Advanced Training Committee and Specialist Societies.
5.  To organise an ATSM Director meeting once a year
6.  To be a member of the Advanced Training Committee and report formally on ATSM training
7.  To attend the Specialty Education Advisory Committee on a needs basis
8.  To liaise with the Senior Director of Education and Assessment, Head of Specialty Education and Training, the Specialty Education and Training and Education Innovation Departments and Vice President for Education regarding future workforce requirements, current service considerations and implications for education, training and assessment in ATSMs.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Qualifications / Training
Essential
·  MRCOG/FRCOG
·  Registered with a licence to practice with GMC, in good standing
·  Substantive consultant in Obstetrics &/or Gynaecology in UK NHS Practice Evidence of annual appraisal
·  Evidence of equal opportunities and diversity training within previous 3 years

Previous Experience

Essential
·  Experience in ATSM training and delivery
·  Experience as an ATSM trainer
Desirable
·  Experience as a current ATSM Director

Key Skills / Attributes

·  Good communication skills
·  The ability to liaise with College Officers, Postgraduate Deans, Heads of Schools, ATSM Directors, trainees and others concerned with ATSM training
·  An enthusiasm for development of ATSM training and its support through appropriate representation and meetings and the time commitment as specified above

Course Convenor /Organiser

Please note that credits are not normally claimable for being a course convenor.

However, credits would be claimable for giving lectures or teaching sessions on the course and for mock examining. The same lecture or teaching session can only be claimed once during the 5-year cycle.

The rate of claim for giving teaching sessions/lectures is as follows:

·  1 credit per hour in the national/international category for giving teaching sessions or leading a workshop on a course

·  5 credits in the national/international category for giving a formal presentation on a course

·  1 credit per hour in the national/international category for mock examining

A maximum of 25 credits in each 5-year cycle applies for all presentations/teachings sessions given at national/international courses or conferences, and for formal and mock examining.

If the convenor feels that in the course of her/his work s/he has gained new knowledge which enhances patient care or leadership and teaching skills, additional credits could be claimed under reflective learning. One credit may be claimed per reflective learning form to a maximum of 25 credits in each 5-year cycle.

Committee Chair/Member

CPD credits are not claimable for the role of Chair or Committee member. However, if within your Committee role you gain knowledge which enhances patient care or leadership and technical skills, credits could be claimed under reflective learning.
