HOM: We record with sorrow a homicide which occurred at Dennis Station on the Milledgeville and Eatonton Railroad, Putnam County, on last Thursday afternoon. A difficulty occurred between two neighbors living at, or near the station, viz: Mr. William Garrard and Mr. J. M. Broadfield, the particulars of which we have not learned. Mr. Garrard, however, drew a knife and attempted to cut the throat of Mr. Broadfield, when a son of the latter came to the assistance of his father, with a pistol, which he discharged into the body of Mr. Garrard, inflicting six or seven wounds, causing his death. Mr. Broadfield,we do not know, but Mr. Garrard was a frequent visitor to this city, where he did much of his trading, and was regarded as a clever, honorable man, who had unfortunately fallen into the too prevalent habit of using intoxicating drinks. He leaves a wife and five or six children. UNION RECORDER (Milledgeville): Tuesday, February 9, 1875
