Homework Guidelines for Elemental Acupressure students

  1. After each class complete the work and send it to me by email
  2. Include : Name, date, email address, postal address
  3. keep a copy of all homework. Email is an unreliable form of communication. If you save a copy of your work, then it is always easy to send a second copy to me if I don’t get the first.
  4. Feel free to use this file for your work or create your own version. As long as you complete the assignment, I am happy.
  5. these assignments are required for the certificate and highly recommended as on-going exercises, not as a rush at the end of your studies! They build the foundation of skills and understanding so that your classes progress with great results.

Homework for introductionto shiatsu for horses or dogs

Written work:

  1. Where did Shiatsu originate?
  2. What three basic bodywork methods are included in Shiatsu?
  3. List the five basic principles and write a SHORT description why each principle is important to your bodywork with animals.
  4. List 5 to 10 reasons how Shiatsu can benefit animals.

Hands-on work:

Do three shiatsu sessions of at least 20 minutes duration on an animal. Describe each session in a short paragraph. Also describe any changes in the animal in the 24 hours following the session. Ideally, choose three different animals to work with in order to get a more varied experience.

Further optional home study:

Set yourself a schedule of shiatsu sessions, perhaps one per week or two times per month, and keep to that schedule for at least three months in order to integrate the basic strokes fully. Use a variety of animals for best experience.

Homework for introduction to acupressure for horses or dogs

Written work:

  1. What is acupressure and where did it originate?
  2. What is more important with acupressure: accuracy or intention? Why?
  3. List each of the points from class and write a SHORT description of its use in animal acupressure.
  4. Fill in the point sheet (page 4) for each point covered in class.

Hands-on work:

  1. Repeat the energy ball exercise (presented in the online meeting) three times in the 2weeks following the class. Write a short paragraph describing your experience after each time.
  2. Locate each new point on yourself three times in the week following the class. Once you have found the point, review its use in your mind, then relax and apply gentle acupressure to each point for 20 to 60 seconds.
  3. Locate each new point on three different animals. Also describe any changes in the animal in the 24 hours following the session. Ideally, choose three different animals to work with in order to get a more varied experience.
  4. Do three acupressure sessions including the full sequence of at least 10 minutes duration on an animal. Try to use all of the points from the class in each session. Describe each session in a short paragraph. Also describe any changes in the animal in the 24 hours following the session. Ideally, choose three different animals to work with in order to get a more varied experience.
  5. OPTIONAL but recommended: photograph each point that you locate in the hands-on work part 3 and begin a computer file of those photos. Send the photos to me along with your written work.

Homework for introduction to the Five Elements, part 1

Written work:

  1. Describe the Five Elements in a SHORT paragraph.
  2. Fill in the Five Element correspondences table using your notes. Do this often until you have memorized this table !
  3. List the following for each of the Five Elements: three body symptoms common to an animal of each elemental constitution, three behavioral symptoms common to an animal of each elemental constitution, three lifestyle recommendations for each elemental constitution including diet, exercise, training etc…
  4. Fill in the point sheet (page 4) for each point covered in class.
