RE: Special Meeting - Installation of Security Bars

Dear Homeowner(s):

As you are aware, the Board of Directors of the Heritage Glen Homeowners Association convened a special homeowners meeting on December 30, 2009 at the Building Bridges Academic Center, located at 65-67 Kettering Drive, Largo, Maryland. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss and vote on a proposed resolution to allow homeowners to install security bars on the rear windows and doors of their units. As a result of the meeting, the following changes to the Architectural Control guidelines were approved:

  • Security bars can be installed only in the rear of the home and only on rear windows and doors. Security bars are allowed to be placed on ground level basement windows on the sides of the homes as long as they match the approved color and design for security bars.
  • Installation of security bars on the side (including sunrooms) and front sides of the home is strictly prohibited.
  • Security bars must be white in color and must be grid pattern design to match exterior rear window or door design.

Please note that prior to beginning any exterior modification, homeowners must provide a completed exterior modification change request form, along with a $25 check or money order to cover the cost of processing the application. In addition, homeowners must be current in their assessments in order to have their application processed. Failure to comply with any of the above items will result in your application being either delayed or denied.

The new Architectural Control guideline pertaining to the installation of rear security bars is effective immediately. Please note that any homeowner who has already installed security bars without the expressed written approval of the Board of Directors, installed them in an unapproved location, or installed security bars that do not match the color or style approved by the Association may be subject to fines. In addition, homeowners may be required to remove the non-conforming or unauthorized bars at their expense.

In the event you have or are planning to install rear security bars on your home, we have attached a copy of the architectural request form for your use along with a sample of an approved security bars.
