Dear Parents / Guardians of Blue Duke Nation:
We have completed the first full week of the second semester and are already moving quickly toward a major school break. Unbelievably, in just 15 school days, students of RMS will enjoy the annual five day winter break. Between now and then, there will be a LOT going on!
We will continue recognizing excellence and the pursuit of it by celebrating our January PRIDE Students of the Month and Most Improved Students onFriday, February 10th. We really enjoy these opportunities to celebrate Blue Duke Pride as it relates to successful, pro-social behavior that makes our school a better place for learning.
Our next celebrations of students will be our second quarter academic recognition ceremonies. These will take place on the 20th, 21st and 22nd of the month in the afternoon. Report cards will be going out on the 10th and will include information pertaining to these events. They really are some of the most important recognitions we celebrate as an educational community. As always, parents are both welcomed and encourage to attend these 40 minute celebrations of the pursuit of academic excellence.
The 20th also marks the beginning of Winter Carnival. This is our first attempt at a winter celebration of Blue Duke Nation Pride and will involve fun and silly games, a staff versus student game and competitions that pit each grade against each other. I am even hearing a rumor of a dunk tank (NO WAY I am getting in that thing...). The winning grade will take home the BLUE DUKE PRIDE CUP and earn bragging rights for the remainder of the school year. One component that will contribute to scoring will be student participation in the PTO's "Sky's the Limit" Fundraiser. This will play out as students get family, friends and community members to give ONE DOLLAR to them to support extra-curricular activities. The highest total numbers for each CLASS will determine the winner of this component of the Winter Carnival competition. It is our sincere hope that we can all make the small investment in this fund raiser that does so much to help students get additional learning experiences beyond the classroom while extending the curricula.
It is my hope that you all enjoy this Super Bowl Weekend.
Go Blue Dukes! (Go New England Patriots!)
Sincerely,
Jim McCollum
