The event is a ride, not a race. Participants should be referred to by clothes whenever possible, as this is how they are tracked. No bib numbers. Name and emergency contact is on wristband.
EMERGENCY TRAFFIC ALWAYS HAS PRIORITY! All stations not involved with the emergency should stand by whenever emergency traffic is being handled. Net control will permit normal communications when the emergency traffic has been cleared. When passing emergency traffic, please identify locations by street address or mile marker, when possible.
Please use your tactical designator when calling net control. Sags may be assigned a different number at Start/ Finish. Remember to identify with your callsign at the end of any series of transmissions. Please check in with net control at the beginning of your assignment, and out of the net when leaving the event.
Participants with injuries should be referred to by rider information on wristband whenever possible. Wristband with emergency number and contact name. You may convey any medically necessary information, but avoid transmitting personal information, such as someone's name, that may violate that person's privacy rights.
SAGs will be dispatched using the following priority: First; accident / medical need. Second; mechanical breakdown. Third; safety concerns, lost riders. Fourth; rider does not wish to continue. Unless there is an overriding medical or safety reason, SAGs should try to return to start/finish with full loads.
Remember to dress for variable weather, stay hydrated, bring your radio, charged batteries, antenna, etc.
The route covers some areas with difficult repeater coverage. Higher power or gain antennas may be necessary for reliable communications. This is especially true for WalkerCreek and for Valley Ford, with its power lines. Mobile stations may need to relocate to make contact, or try one of the alternate frequencies.
For best performance, APRS trackers should be set for a path of Wide 1-1, Wide 2-2. Not all areas on the route will be in coverage of a digipeater, so some drop outs should be expected.
There is a new photographer cruising the course—you may have seen them at the Marin Century: Bill and Brigette Clough. photos.net
This event benefits the West Marin Senior Center. MARS and WMSS thank you for volunteering. And thank you, and thank you!
