Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

1In the beginning(A)God created the heavens and the earth.[a](B)

2Now the earth was[b]formless and empty,(C)darkness covered the surface of the watery depths, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.(D

)3Then God said, “Let there be light,”(E)and there was light.

4God saw that the light was good, and God separated the light from the darkness.

5God called the light “day,” and He called the darkness “night.” Evening came and then morning: the first day.

6Then God said, “Let there be an expanse[c]between the waters, separating water from water.”(F)

7So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above the expanse.(G)And it was so.

8God called the expanse “sky.”[d]Evening came and then morning: the second day.

9Then God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered into one place,(H)and let the dry land appear.” And it was so.

10God called the dry land “earth,” and He called the gathering of the water “seas.” And God saw that it was good.

John 1:1-10

1In the beginningwas the Word,[a]
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
2He was with God in the beginning.
3All things were createdthrough Him,
and apart from Him not one thing was created
that has been created.

4Life was in Him,[b]
and that life was the lightof men.
5That light shinesin the darkness,
yet the darkness did not overcome[c]it.

6There was a man named John
who was sent from God.
7He came as a witness
to testify about the light,
so that all might believe through him.[d]

8He was not the light,
but he came to testifyabout the light.
9The true light, who gives light to everyone,
was coming into the world.[e]

10He was in the world,
and the world was createdthrough Him,
yet the world did not recognize Him.

Luke 2:1-10

2In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that the whole empire should be registered.

2This first registration took place while Quirinius was governing Syria.

3So everyone went to be registered, each to his own town.

4And Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family line of David,

5to be registered along with Mary, who was engaged to him and was pregnant.

6While they were there, the time came for her to give birth.

7Then she gave birth to her firstborn Son, and she wrapped Him snugly in cloth and laid Him in a feeding trough—because there was no room for them at the lodging place.

8In the same region, shepherds were staying out in the fields and keeping watch at night over their flock.

9Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.

10But the angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid, for look, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people:

John 1:11-14Holman Christian Standard Bible

11He came to His own,and His own people[b] did not receive Him.

12But to all who did receive Him,
He gave them the right to be[c] children of God,
to those who believe in His name,

13who were born,not of blood,
or of the will of the flesh,
or of the will of man,
but of God.

14The Word became flesh
and took up residence[g] among us.
We observed His glory,
the glory as the One and Only Son from the Father,
full of grace and truth.

Psalm 51:1-3Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

1Be gracious to me, God,
according to Your faithful love;
according to Your abundant compassion,
blot out my rebellion.

and my sin is always before me.

16All Scripture is inspired by God[a]and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness,17so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

2 Peter 1:20-21

20First of all, you should know this: No prophecy of Scripture comes from one’s own interpretation,21because no prophecy ever came by the will of man;instead, men spoke from God as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.
