Current context

Tenterfield Nursery School has 64 funded 2-5 year olds places in morning or afternoon nursery classes. In addition to the funded 15 & 30 hours, parents can buy extra hours as part of our wrap around provision which is open 7.30- 6 for most of the year. Children in wrap around slots share the same resources and areas as funded children making their day seamless and of consistently high quality as planning is overseen by the nursery teachers. The school offers a nurture group led by an accredited teacher (the assistant head).

The governors and headteacher also manage the Welwyn and Knebworth Children’s Centre Group under contract to Hertfordshire County Council. The main base for the group is in Tenterfield with two other centres in Woolmer Green and Welwyn Garden City. The site is also used by health visitors and other professionals working with families of under fives making it a real integrated early years centre.

KEY OBJECTIVES:

  • Ensure that the Holiday Club childcare in our provision is of the highest possible standard and that all statutory requirements are met.
  • To take responsibility for the health and safety, security and well-being of all children within the setting, with the support of senior leaders
  • Ensure that all school Policies and Procedures are adhered to at all times.
  • To take part in annual performance management as arranged by the Headteacher.
  • To have shared responsibility for the setting in the absence of the Headteacher (in holiday periods and out of school hours)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To share in the day to day management of the Holiday Club element of the setting, encouraging good practice by the staff team with regard to individual and group work with the children.
  • To ensure the safety and well being of the children at all times.
  • To build positive relationships with all staff in the school.
  • To respect and build positive relationships with all parents/carers, communicating clearly with them, encouraging them to participate in their child’s progress and development.
  • To ensure the recording, delivery and evaluation of planned and suitable activities for each child; following the EYFS and statutory frameworks.
  • To contribute towards a stimulating and attractive classroom environment.
  • To attend all training opportunities offered and reflect on practice and develop best practice.

HEALTH and SAFETY:

  • To ensure that the highest standards of safety, security, hygiene and cleanliness are operated at all times within the setting.
  • To ensure that all school policies and procedures relating to child protection, confidentiality and data protection are operated at all times and report all concerns to an appropriate person.
  • To ensure the security of the school building when opening and locking the building adhering to lone working policies
  • To oversee and monitor all dietary and medical requirements of children using the wraparound provision ensuring that all staff are aware of these

CRIMINAL RECORDS BUREAU:

This post is classed as having a high degree of contact with children or vulnerable adults and is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. An enhanced disclosure will be sought through the Criminal Records Bureau as part of Hertfordshire County Council’s pre-employment checks.

The duties and responsibilities listed above describe the post as it is at present. The post holder is expected to accept any reasonable alterations that may from time to time be necessary.

JOB CONTEXT:

  • The post is managed by the headteacher.
  • This is a part time post covering our Holiday Club periods (approximately 10 weeks per year).
  • The starting salary for this post is on H2 part time equivalent with progression dependent on achieving performance targets

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

  • There is a requirement, subject to appropriate training, to lift and carry children. There is a need to move nursery equipment in and out of the setting in cooperation with other team members

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • There is a need, from time to time, to wipe up blood and other bodily fluids.
  • There is a need to change nappies and assist with toileting and toilet training of children.
