HOLELESS HYDRAULIC PASSENGER ELEVATOR

PART - GENERAL

SUMMARY

Section Includes:

Provide preengineered holeless type hydraulic passenger elevator(s) as specified and noted on Drawings.

Provide motor and pump, controllers, hoistway accessories, hall call stations, and required appurtenances for a complete elevator installation.

Related Work Specified Elsewhere:

Hoistway, including enclosure, pit, drains, lights, access doors, waterproofing, and ventilation as required.

Elevator equipment/machine room, including electrical work outlets, lighting, and heating and ventilation as required.

Structural supports and foundations.

Trenching and backfilling for underground piping and conduit.

Cutting and patching of walls and floors as required for elevator installation.

Grouting door sills, hoistway entrance frames, and signal fixtures after installation.

Temporary enclosure or other protection of open hoistway and elevator work during installation.

Temporary elevator service prior to completion and acceptance of elevator installation.

Storage facilities for elevator equipment prior to and during installation.

Related Work By Electrical Contractor:

Electrical Power: Extend electrical service of ample capacity from power main through a fused safety switch to terminals of elevator power unit controller.

Elevator Car Lighting: Provide separately fused, single phase service to elevator controller for elevator car lights. Elevator Contractor shall provide wiring to car lighting system from elevator controller.

Light and Outlet in Hoistway Pit: Provide a light and convenience outlet in elevator hoistway pit.

Light and Outlet in Elevator Equipment/Machine Room: Provide a light and convenience outlet in elevator equipment/machine room.

Heat and smoke sensors as required by NFPA 72E and ANSI/ASME A17.1.

Telephone wiring to and connections at controller in elevator equipment/machine room.

Deviations From Contract Requirements:

Manufacturers shall inform Architect, in writing, of deviations in materials or equipment specified or called for on Drawings. Manufacturers shall obtain written approval of deviations, from Architect, 7days prior to bid date.

Manufacturers having power requirements greater than those specified, including starting amps, running amps, and horsepower, or additional circuiting requirements beyond what is specified to be provided by Electrical Contractor, shall include in their Bid and be responsible for paying additional costs which may be required for electrical service equipment of sufficient size and type to comply with elevator requirements and additional circuits which may be required for elevator operation.

SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

General Requirements:

This Section describes elevator system(s), hydraulic type, cylinder(s) and casing(s) within elevator hoistway, with motor and pump in an adjacent equipment/machine room.

Characteristics of elevator(s) are specified in Part 2 - Products.

Program car and hoistway doors to open automatically when elevator arrives at each landing.

Include door protective devices consisting of movable, retractable safety edges, noiseless in operation and (2) photoelectric light rays which operate within invisible infrared light range.

Program door operating sequence to minimize car and hall door open and close times. Provide independently adjustable door open times.

Program controls to minimize delays and the return of car to service, should doors be prevented from closing for a predetermined time.

If doors are prevented from closing for 10 seconds because of an activated obstruction safety device, automatically disconnect door control device, allow doors to close more slowing, and recycle until obstruction is cleared; sound alarm.

Render "door close" signal inoperative when car is standing at dispatching terminal with doors open unless elevator is in independent service.

Special Operational Features:

Independent service with key operated fire fighter's operation.

Interconnect with fire and smoke alarm building automation system.

Card reader operation system with key operated override system.

Special or Primary Tools: Bids that include control systems which utilize diagnostic tools shall be deemed nonresponsive. Bids are to include control systems with onboard diagnostics which are serviceable and maintainable by any qualified elevator service company without the use of a diagnostic tool. It is the intent of this paragraph to disallow any proprietary hardware or software.

General Requirements: Provide submittals in accordance with Section 013000, unless otherwise indicated.

Shop Drawings: Provide complete description of elevator system. Include machine room plan, hoistway section, entrance details, car details, hoisting equipment, signal equipment, control equipment, and following:

Dimensional Drawings; showing plans, elevations, sections, and largescale building structure and relationship with other construction

Details of Car Enclosure and Hoistway Entrances

Certified Test Reports on Required Testing

Indicate Capacities, Sizes, Performance and Operating Characteristics, Features of Control Systems, Finish, and Similar Information

Include Any Variations From Specified Requirements

Samples: Submit samples of full palette of manufacturer's standard finishes for elevator car cab interior materials for Architect's selection.

Operation and Maintenance Data:

To include description of elevator system’s method of operation and control, door operation, signals, firefighter’s service, and special or nonstandard features provided.

Provide parts catalogs with complete list of equipment replacement parts with equipment description and identifying numbers.

Provide (1) copy of master electric schematic behind plastic glazing, in metal frame, mounted on machine room wall.

Provide (1) copy of lubrication chart, behind plastic glazing, in metal frame, mounted on machine room wall.

Contract Closeout Submittals: Provide in accordance with Section 017700.

Operation and Maintenance Manual: Provide bound Operation and Maintenance Manual which includes operating and maintenance procedures, parts list, lubrication requirements, recommended parts inventory listing, purchase source listing for major and critical components, emergency instructions, and similar information.

Provide instructions for Owner as specified under Part 3 of this Section.

Certificates and Permits: Provide Owner with copies of inspection/acceptance certificates and operating permits as required by governing authorities to allow normal, unrestricted use of elevators.

QUALITY ASSURANCE

Regulatory Requirements:

Permits and Taxes: Secure and pay for permits, inspection fees, and licenses necessary for execution of work and applicable sales and use taxes.

Applicable Codes and Standards:

Provide elevator in accordance with ANSI A17.1., the National Electrical Code, and state and local code requirements.

Provide elevator in accordance with ANSI A117.1 and ADA Guidelines for provisions for disabled persons.

Door and frame assemblies shall meet requirements of NFPA 80, UL10B.

Perform welding in accordance with AWS D.1.1.

Inspections: Arrange for and make inspections and tests required.

Pre-Installation Conference: Convene a PreInstallation Conference, not less than 1week before starting work onsite, in accordance with provisions specified under Section 013119. Conference attendees shall include representatives of construction entities affected by work of this Section, General Contractor, Owner, and Architect.

Testing:

Provide inspection and testing of each elevator system in the presence of the Owner and Architect.

Obtain permits and perform tests required by regulatory agencies.

Schedule tests with authority having jurisdiction and give timely notice to Architect, Owner, and General Contractor.

Testing of Elevator System: In addition to other requirements, inspections, and tests specified, upon completion of the elevator installation and before final approval and final payment, make in the presence of Architect or his designated representative and Owner, a running speed test with full maximum load on elevator car to determine whether elevator equipment, as installed, meets the speed, capacity, and other requirements of the Specifications.

Manufacturer Qualifications: Elevator manufacturer shall be a company specializing in the manufacture of elevator equipment with minimum of 10years documented experience. “Value Added Vendors” are not acceptable.

Installer Qualifications: Installer shall have employees and supervisor certified by elevator equipment manufacturer.

DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

Delivery of Materials: Deliver materials in manufacturer's original, unopened, protective packaging.

Storage and Protection:

Store materials in original protective packaging. Prevent soiling, physical damage or getting wet.

Protect equipment and exposed finishes during transportation and installation against damage and stains.

SITE CONDITIONS

Temporary Use of Elevator: Do not permit use of elevator for construction purposes or during construction period without written permission from Architect.

SEQUENCING AND SCHEDULING

Coordination: Coordinate elevator installation requirements with construction of elevator hoistway and equipment/machine room.

WARRANTY

General Warranty Requirements: Warranty that materials and workmanship of equipment installed are firstclass and that defects, not due to ordinary wear or improper use, which develop within 2years from date of completion of elevator installation, shall be made good.

Deficient Work: If installed equipment does not meet Contract requirements, promptly remove from site such work condemned by Architect and provide new work in accordance with Contract requirements, without expense to Owner, including expenses for repairing/replacing work of others destroyed or damaged as a result of this removal and new installation work.

Owner Correcting Deficiencies:

If the condemned work is not remedied within a reasonable time, fixed by written notice from Architect, Owner may correct such condemned work and withhold such cost from final payment under the Contract Sum.

If remainder due under Contract Sum is insufficient to cover such cost, Contractor agrees to immediately reimburse Owner in full.

MAINTENANCE

Maintenance Service:

Provide a quality maintenance service consisting of regular examination, adjustments, and lubrication of elevator equipment for a period of 1 year after elevator has been accepted by Owner.

Competent employees of Elevator Contractor shall perform maintenance work during regular working hours of the trade and shall include emergency 24hour, 7daysperweek, call back service. Do not subcontract maintenance service work.

Maintenance service shall not include costs for adjustments, repairs or replacement of parts caused by misuse, abuse or other causes beyond control of Elevator Contractor.

Provide only the same genuine parts and supplies as used in manufacture and original installation of equipment.

Perform maintenance service once per month.
