Hockey pitch – car parking

The problem:

Planning permission seems to be contingent on not needing any additional parking on Spring Gardens Lane. That has been taken for the basis of this brief.

The response:

There are 55 dedicated parking spaces on the school site together with another 8 informal spaces. The pdf herewith shows broadly where they are but this drawing pre-dates the Sports Hall and the overall design has been altered

During the school day

It is not intended to have any additional traffic during the school d ay

There is room to park 4no (full length) buses on the bus turnaround. They deliver students at 8.30am and collect them again at 3pm.

Any visiting teams will be playing matches after school, arriving as the bulk of students leave the site when the bus turnaround will be available for parking. The same situation that holds at present

If an inter-school tournament is held it will be held during the school day with students returning to their own schools to be dismissed there at the end of the day. In other words they will be away from the site before the HFCS buses arrive. So the bus turn around will allow additional parking where necessary. Again the same situation as at present

We also have the lower playground (red spot on the sketch) which can be used as an overflow carpark if necessary depending on the space required for any tournament or after-school event

Out-of-hours use

Community use only takes place while the schoolis closed. There may be an odd couple of teachers working late but otherwise the whole site is available for car parking.

If visiting clubs bring buses they will be able to park on the bus turnaround. The car parks themselves can cater for 55 vehicles (plus the buses on the turn-around) and the lower playground is available for overflow car parking

During building works

A 14-week schedule is anticipated

6 weeks of that will fall during school holidays if the build is scheduled for the summer. Which side of the summer holidays the additional 8 weeks can be accommodated will depend on exam dates and the nature of the work to be done. The main exam hall (green spot on the ketch) is quite close to the intended works so disruptive noise may be a limiting factor

At this stage we can only say that we intend to commit the lower playground to the builders as their compound to include builders’ parking
