INTRODUCTION

My dear listener let me welcome you in your health program based on HIV/AIDS.

Your presenter is Alice Nyoroka.

Sign tune………………

First you are supposed to get information on what is HIV/AIDS. HIV means Human Immune Deficiency Virus . So HIV is the virus that causes Aids by weakening the body’s immune system thus making an individual more vulnerable to other diseases.

Aids means Acquired Immune deficiency syndrome. Aids is a combination of opportunistic diseases that attack the body due to HIV infection . Remain there we shall be right back after a short break.

Sign tune………………………

Welcome back my dear listener and remember we are still on theHIV/AIDSprogram

The most important issue on this matter is to be aware that a HIV-positive person is someonewho is infected with thevirus. However he or she can live long without anysigns or symptoms. Moreover a person with HIV/AIDS is a HIVpositive person already having some opportunistic diseases, in this case this stage is calledWindow period whereby someone can live with HIV/Aids from the time of infection to twenty years without realizing it.

Sign tune…………………………..

You will wonder that everyone has an immune system and what all about it. Well, everyone has an immune system. This is your body’s defense against infection . It is rather like an umbrella right now as you are listening to this talk your immune system is working to protect you much like an umbrella would protect you from the rain which is depicted as different kinds of infections, which could make you ill.

But just as an umbrella protects you against the rain, the immune system protects you against different infections and stops you from feeling ill.

Ending this session is much appreciation my listener for being with us, this is Mugambo FM 102.3 FM stay tuned, till next time.

HIV/AIDS PROGRAM

TOPIC: HIV/AIDS TRANSIMISSION

INTRODUCTION

Hi and welcome dear listener to our program on HIV/ AIDS and remember we’re continuing from where we left last time and remember that we discussed various things related to HIV/AIDS like definitions of HIV/AIDS and many more.

Your presenter is Irene Igweta

Sign tune…………………

In our topic today weare discussingthe main areaswhere this HIV virus is found. It is found in three body fluids.Lets start by discussing the very first one that is blood, sex fluids of both men and women (semen and vaginal fluids) and breast milk.

HIV can be transmitted though the blood, through sharing needles, blood transfusion with contaminated blood but remember that blood given in hospitals is safer . We will be right back after a short break.

Sign tune………………

Welcome back and we are still discussing on HIV/AIDS and now we’re already on transmission and my dear listener remember that we’ve already discussed one mode of transmission that is blood transmission and the second mode is through mother to child in different ways. During pregnancy it usually happens when mothers are very ill and their placentas have broken down so that fluid enter the womb and infect the baby.It can also be transmitted during labour . This is when the baby’s skin is soft and sensitive . If the babies skin tears during labor, the mother fluid enter the open tears. HIV/AIDS can also be infected through breastfeeding because breast milk is a fluid and may contain HIV. Stay tuned we will be right back.

Sign tune ………………….

As I told you my dear listener we’re back with views of what people thinks of HIV/AIDS and related stories one may think that by looking at someone who is poor in health you can tell that he/she is affected or not. But I assure you that you can’t tell whether a person is HIV positive or not . Others also think that by playing with an infected (HIV) person you can also get infected and this is very wrong my dear listener. Many of youalso think that by being bitten by insects like mosquitoes, kissing, protected sex and hugging one can get infected by HIV/AIDS. All this is wrong listener. we shall discuss more on other modes of transmission and HIV/AIDs prevention next time.

Thank you listener for staying with us, this is Mugambo FM 102.3 and stay tuned to learn more your presenter has been Irene Igweta.

Anybody can get tested and know his/her status, it doesn’t matter if you are infected with HIV/Aids for you to be tested . If at all you happen to enter the VCT room you have to be counseled and be taught on living with HIV/AIDS if positive, and how to prevent the infection if negative. We shall be right back stay tuned with Mugambo FM 102.3.

Sign tune…………….

Welcome and thanks for being with us and know more about the principles of testing. The most important thing is that VCT are provided at the clients personal request and interestingly one is not forced but its through voluntary.

In this field the details are confidential and private all test results and identifying information stays between the client and the health care worker or the doctor and this assures everyone the importance of knowing the status, more over one can choose to visit the VCT without or not to involve their family and friends in the results. Respect is highly maintained for everyone who wants to know his status and this should encourage those who have not known their status.

  • Spiritual

Thanks for staying with us; we will be back after a short break with more details on the five dimensions of a person.

Welcome back dearlistener and now we’re discussing these five dimensions of a person’s life andlets start withphysical.

When one of these dimensions is not taken care of., it affects all the other areas of a person’s life This is when PLWHA assures that they have a balance diet access to clean water exercise and many others are taken care of. And by doing this your body will remain healthy physically.

Today we are discussing about phases of HIV and to start withis thesymptomatic phase. This is where the virus isin thebody and the person is experiencing symptoms.HIV related symptoms can include loss of appetite, swollen glands, fever, night sweats, weight loss, skin rashes, diarrhea, weakness and coughing.

Symptoms and signs can appear from the second month of infection to 10 years or even more. Not all people experience the same signs and symptoms, so it is important that a person who develops these symptoms has an HIV test.

Dear listener we will be right back after a short break.

Sign tune……………………..

Welcome back listeners we are back with more details on HIV/AIDS.There is the final stage of HIV/AIDS and this is when aids is full blown. This iswhen theinfected person is suffering from this life threatening illness. The stage usually lasts from one to two years depending on available treatment.

How can someone protect his family from HIV/AIDS? You can simply do this by practicing God’s plan on married life. The only and best way of practicing this is by abstaining from sex when not married and after getting married remain faithful to your married partner

Dear listener there are different ways of reducing risky factors. You need tobe optimistic;most probably parents should expose their children to positive values, rules and regulations. Ensure that yourchildren are in safe and welcoming school environment. And also everyone should have a positive relation with adults you don’t need to think negatively whenever may be you ‘v e seen two opposite sex adults together.

By doing this and many more you can learn onhow tolive and protect your family from being infected with HIV/AIDS

This marks the end of our today‘s program and we shall continue next time. Don’t move we have many more andinteresting programs tokeep youlearning andinformed.

HIV/AIDS PROGRAM

TOPIC: PREVENTION

INTRODUCTION

Welcome dear listeners in our today’s session based on HIV/AIDS and know more about the disease for the goodness of your health. Today we shall discuss the issues of transmission from where we left last time.

Sign tune……………………

Sometimes people lack knowledge of how HIV/AIDS are transmitted and this leads one to deviate from reality by distorted information. People should learn to scoop the right information from the trusted personnel. To crown this one is supposed to live by the spirit and know god personally and follow god’s law. That is god’s plan for sex is for you not to have sex before marriage and not to not to have sex outside marriage. This is the best and first way to prevent HIV/AIDS. Let me tell you dear listener if youth will abstain and the married remain faithful I guarantee you that this threat will get an end.

Secondly, when it comes to blood transfusion this blood must be laboratory tested for the recipient’s safety. Because when someone has donated blood u never someone’s status, maybe you trust this person so much and you never thought that this person might be infected. Thanks for being with us; we shall be back after a while.

Sign tune………………………………

Welcome back we get straight to where we have just left. Let’s begin with the case of a mother to child transmission. Here this case is very simple that’s why many of us just don’t care about it and listen here very carefully dear listener, immediately a woman gets pregnant the very first thing she should do is knowing her status .by getting tested you will be in apposition of saving your life your child’s .if the mother tests positive or negative they will give you directives on how to deal with your status.

I tell you the truth that in some cases even doctors get to wonder why, simply because some traditions doesn’t accept pregnant women to go to clinics when pregnant. This happens when this pregnant woman respects her culture and their traditions.

Dear listener this is Mugambo fm 102.3 we will be right back with more details concerning HIV/AIDS. Stay tuned.

Sign tune…………………………………

According to research, every tribe has its own way of circumcising men and in most parts of the country women are being circumcised. Sharing of knifes can simply spread the virus and therefore we need to be very careful on this matter .many of never even know where they get this disease from. You need to be careful whenever this case is presented. Another thing when it comes to the case of needles why do you have to share and I think a needle is the cheapest item you can purchase. No matter how trusted a person is may it be your parent or whoever doesn’t share with her .

Ending our session today I will leave you with a few things to remember; the first one is to abstain and the second one is being faithful. Stay with us and get to know more. Take care of yourself. Am your presenter Murungi Mukindia

HIV/AIDS PROGRAM

TOPIC: TRANSMISSION AND PHASES OF HIV/AIDS

INTRODUCTION

Thank you and welcome dear listeners, this is take care program and we are still on HIV/AIDS and we are going on from where we left last time. Today we are discussing on how HIV/AIDS is transmitted.

Sign tune…………………….. . To start with, many people that get infected are the in married status. This is simply because they love their partners so much that they don’t even protect themselves when having sex. This is very risky and please dear listeners don’t put yourselves into this mess by trusting your partners so much, it’s just a simple thing, don’t trust anyone else expect yourself , and by doing this we are going to defeat HIV/AIDS..

What’s the progression of HIV infection? HIV progresses with time as the body s immunity is depleted. That is there are different phases of HIV infection; window period, asymptomatic phase, symptomatic phase, and the aids stage. Dear listener I will right back

Sign tune……………………...

I salute you for being with us and remember we are still discussing the progression of HIV infection. Let’s start by discussing the window period. This is the time from the day of infection to six months. After this period is when antibodies are found in the blood test. The is in the body hiding and therefore doctors cannot detect it. At this phase a person may test negative while the virus is in the body and remember he can infect someone else.

As we said earlier there is the second phase called asymptomatic phase. At this stage the infected person is free from signs and symptoms the virus is in the body but the person infected does not experience any illness. Although the person feels healthy he can still infect others.

At this phase, the person infected is still very healthy for many years; that is it may last for about 20 years from the day of infection. This marks the end of session today and we shall discuss the other phase of HIV/aids next time so don’t miss.

Stay tuned to Mugambo fm am your presenter Murungi Mukindia.
