Job Description – Design Engineer
POSITION SUMMARY
The Design Engineer is responsible for design studies and concept studies and will serve as a liaison between BorgWarner engineering, other BorgWarner locations, other internal groups at BorgWarner (quality, manufacturing, purchasing, etc.), vendors and customers to ensure product designs.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Develop accurate complex designs, layouts, and stack-ups of individual parts or assemblies.
Check detail drawings and layouts, which includes producing detail drafting and other drafting related tasks as required.
Coordinate critical design changes with manufacturing engineering.
Determine critical dimension and tolerance information by working with Senior Designer or other Engineering personnel.
Perform maintenance of CAD/CAM files. Continue training with advanced CAD/CAM methods and equipment and start and/or continues training with CAE methods and equipment.
Provide a smooth interchange of ideas and information between supervisor, engineers, co-workers, and customers. This requires maintaining daily personal contact with all facets of the function’s operations and remaining aware of current progress.
Develop and maintain customer and internal guide files, drafting standards, work instructions, and other tools intended to enhance the efficiency and abilities of his/her Design Group.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required.
Experience in the automotive industry or in a global manufacturing environment preferred.
Proficient in Pro/Engineer methods and equipment, or in similar software i.e. CATIA V5, CAD/CAM.
Understanding of complex design drawings, layouts, stack-ups, and verbal design instructions, and advanced understanding of applying geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
Customer contact requires professional verbal and written communication skills and ability to manage technical details.
Must be a team player and have good organizational skills including the ability to prioritize, handle multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
Proficient with Microsoft office products — Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
