The term of appointment to a professional staff position is at the will and pleasure of the employing official, and subject to the overall requirements of the University and the satisfactory performance of each appointee. There is no probationary period, nor attainment of permanent employment status for persons appointed to professional staff positions. In the event your professional appointment is terminated you will have the right of reversion to the highest classified position previously held or to a position of similar nature and salary. Application for reversion rights must be made within 30 days following the conclusion of a professional staff appointment. A professional staff appointee who is terminated for gross misconduct or malfeasance does not have the right of reversion to classified status.

As a professional staff employee you will be eligible for salary increases based upon your performance. Time off, benefits and retirement savings plan

You will continue to accrue sick time off at the full time equivalent rate of eight hours per month. You will accrue vacation time off following the accrual schedule for professional staff employees. Your years of classified service are counted in determining your vacation accrual rate. Your vacation time off accrual rate is effective on positon start date and your time off records will be adjusted accordingly.

You will have the option of continuing your participation in the Public Employee's Retirement System (PERS) or enrolling in the University of Washington Retirement Plan (UWRP). You will be contacted by the Integrated Service Center regarding this opportunity. There is no change in your medical, dental, life, and long term disability insurance plan coverage as a result of your professional staff appointment.
