Asking For What You Want: Effective Communication

Do you find that there are times when it is difficult to get your point across? Are you frustrated that others do not understand you? Do you find yourself agreeing to do things that later overwhelm you?

This workshop may help you increase how effective you are in communicating with others. We will talk about strategies for asking what you need, setting limits in relationships, and managing conflict with other people. A fundamental part of using these strategies is setting clear goals in what you want to achieve in these relationships. Thus, a key part of this class will focus on how to determine what you want.

Gaining Mastery Over Your Emotions

In this workshop we will discuss strategies to help cope with strong emotions that can at times hinder our ability to be effective in situations. We will learn ways to: (1) increase our awareness of our emotions, (2) decrease our vulnerability to negative emotions, and (3) take an active stance in regulating the intensity of our emotions.

The goal of this seminar is to help participants increase their perceived competence in managing their emotional response to difficult situations and everyday stress. In turn, the hope is that individuals will feel more effective in their relationships and overall functioning.
