HIL to Set Up 2.5 MW Wind Farm in Rajasthan; Inks Power Purchase Agreement with JVVNL

HIL Targets to achieve 20 MW capacity by 2015

Hyderabad/Rajasthan, India, February 29, 2012: Hyderabad Industries Limited ( is setting up 2.5 MW (2x1.25 MW) Wind Farm in Jodhpur Dist. Rajasthan. The company also announced that it has entered into a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Jodhpur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd.,(JVVNL) under the REC (Renewable Energy Certificate) mechanism.

The new Wind Turbine project being set up in is expected to be commissioned by 25th March , 2012. This is the 3rd Wind turbine Project HIL will set up as part of its ongoing green initiative,since its foray in Wind Energy Segment in March’2011. HIL renewable energy portfolio includes 3.6 MW wind power project in Gujarat and a 1.25 MW Wind Power Project in Tamil Nadu.

“HIL is committed to build green renewable energy source,” Mr. Ashok Soni, CFO of HIL said, “ the generation from our Wind Turbine Farm in TN and Gujarat and Rajasthan. Our two plants in TN and Gujarat produce green products by captive consumption of wind energy making our green products greener. Our goal is to raise our renewable energy capacity to surpass our Electricity consumption in the next few years.”

Mr.Soni says “we see a huge opportunity in the wind power segment, especially with the introduction of the REC (Renewable Energy Certificate) mechanism, helping the state power utilities to meet their Renewable Purchase Obligation and provide huge revenue potential”

India is the fourth-largest producer of wind energy in the world, with a current capacity of 7 GW and close to 40 percent Year-on-Year capacity growth. According to recent reports, India is expected to see wind energy installations of about 3,000 MW. The anticipated capacity addition will be 39 percent higher than the 2,142 MW witnessed last year, according to HSBC Global Research. Further, the country is projected to have wind capacity additions of nearly 7,500 MW during 2011-15.

This makes the wind power business very attractive and remunerative for industry players. HIL is planning several wind power projects in the states of Gujarat and Rajasthan, with a target of achieving 20 MW capacity by 2015. The company has earmarked and outlay of Rs. 120 Crores to achieve these Wind Turbine project target. Mr.Soni added.
