Highlands Elementary Schooland the parents of the students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) (participating children, agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high standards. This School-Parent Compact is in effect during the 2016-2017 school year.

School Responsibilities:Highlands Elementarywill:

  1. Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the State’s student academic achievement standards. State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR)
  2. Hold Open House/Parent-Teacher Conferences during September 2016-October 2016 during which this compact will be discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement.
  3. Provide parents with frequent reports on their children’s progress online through Skyward Family Access.
  4. Provide parents reasonable access to staff during the teacher’s planning period and/or time specified and agreed upon between teacher/parent.
  5. Provide parents opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s class, and to observe classroom activities.
  6. Contact parents to “check-in” and answer questions and/or share information about upcoming school events.

Parent Responsibilities:We, asparents, will support our children’s learning in the following ways:

  1. Monitoring attendance.
  2. Making sure that homework is completed.
  3. Support the “All Pro Dads” and PTAprograms.
  4. Participating, as appropriate, in decisions relating to my children’s education.
  5. Support and promote the positive use of my child’s extracurricular time.
  6. Staying informed about my child’s education and communicating with the school by promptly reading all notices from the school or the school district either received by my child or by mail and/or school messenger system, responding, as appropriate.
  7. Serving, to the extent possible, on policy advisory groups, as a parent representative on the school’s Campus Advisory Team, the Title I Policy Advisory Committee, the District Wide Advisory Committee, the Parent Teacher Association, or other school advisory or policy groups.

Student Responsibilities: We, as students, will share the responsibility to improve our academic achievement andachieve the state’s high standards. Specifically, we will:

  1. Complete all work as assigned every day, and ask for help as needed.
  2. Read at least 30 minutes every day outside of school time.
  3. Give to my parents or the adult who is responsible for my welfare all notices

and information received by me from my school every day.

  1. Be prepared for class each school day.
  2. Be cooperative and conduct myself in a courteous manner, by following all school and district policies and procedures outlined in the student code of conduct and Student Handbook.
  3. Exhibit a positive attitude about learning and school.
  4. Use all hardware and software in a responsible way.
  5. Make a genuine attempt to master the skills taught.

Please review this information with your child. Sign and return the signature portion to your child’s teacher by September 23, 2016.
