Highlander Soccer Club Monthly Board Meeting

Attendance: Cari Boucher, Cindy Langer, Tom Horstmann, Dan Pinton, CarmD’Urso, Marie Keefe

President’s Report:

  • Asked to start meeting with nomination of Secretary
  • Dan nominated Marie Keefe, Cindy seconded the nomination
  • Board members voted unanimously for appointment
  • Reviewed logo and merchandise options from Soccer and Beyond
  • We are still waiting for Goal size requirements from CJSJ
  • Coaches meeting planned for March 12th at 6:00 at Barkhamsted Town Garage
  • Marie made a motion to authorize Cindy and Cari to make merchandise purchases from Soccer and Beyond, Dan seconded, unanimous vote

Treasurer’s Report:

  • 1/31/17 balance $6,968.92 with two outstanding checks: Actual balance is $4,160.92
  • Spring registration fees are starting to come in but slow
  • Recommendation was made to have coaches contact team members to encourage them to register
  • All credits will need to be used by April 1st or will be forfeited
  • Suggestion that in the future parents with eligible credits contact Treasurer before Registration to credit the account rather than be reimbursed after payment

Vice President/Training and Development:

  • Challenger Sports recommended one of their Top Brazilian picks, Daniel de Carvalho as our trainer
  • Would start the week of April 17th for 8 weeks
  • We will be reaching out to parents and coaches to see if anyone is interesting in providing housing, looking for one week intervals.
  • Trainer will be available for to support or run one practice a week for each team. The practice will be that teams Brown’s Corner practice. Coaches will be able to select from available times at the March 12th coaches meeting.
  • Marie made a motion for Tom to contract with Challenger Sports for $1000 a week not to exceed $11,000 to pay for trainer. Cari seconded. Vote was unanimous.

Secretary’s Report:

  • Secretary creating parent “handbooks” to be reviewed at coaches meeting. Discussion of the role of the parents on the team and useful information for the parents to have.

Registrar’s Report:

  • We are still looking for a Registrar. Cari and Cindy will be registering the teams and players for the spring season.

Referee Representative Report:

  • New pay schedule discussed. Marie made motion adjust pay as follows:
  • U9-U11: Center Ref $50/Ar $35,
  • U12-U14: CR $60/AR $40
  • No current U16 or U19 teams but would consider $75/$50 in the future.

Cari Seconded, vote unanimous with one abstention (Dan)

  • Requested that coaches have their schedule set two weeks (?) in advance. If game is cancelled within 2 hours of scheduled start ref will still be paid
  • Looking to have a Ref meeting/Clinic in Mid-Late March

Old Business:

  • Team Roster/Formation
  • Double Roster/Single Roster- We have moved to all single roster teams
  • We could use some additional U9 players. We are encouraging players that are interested to attend a practice/scrimmage with the team.
  • Team Registration Update—a lot of registrations are not complete but still early. Encouraging coaches to contact parents to remind them to register.
  • Spring equipment purchases:
  • Tents will be in shed at Brown’s Corner for team use
  • Fund Raising
  • We have someone that may be interested in filling the fund raising position
