Obituary

John Lee Dabney was called home from labor to reward on Thursday, November 8, 2007 at Southside Community Hospital.

At an early age, John accepted Christ and was baptized at the Race Street Baptist Church in Farmville, Virginia.

John grew up with his cousins the (Littles) whom he thought of as his sisters and brothers.

John attended Robert R. Moton School System.

He was a giving and devoted man who was always ready to lend a helping hand. He was one that could always make you laugh. John’s favorite past time was reading the newspaper and working crossword puzzles.

John worked for many years in Fredericksburg, VA for Samuel B. Smith for over 40 years until his health began to fail.

John was united in holy matrimony to Hattie Haskins Dabney and to this union seven children were born.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving and devoted wife of 54 years, Hattie Haskins Dabney of Rice; four daughters: Mary (John) of Crewe, Gertrude (Rufus) of Rice, Denise of Burkeville and Diane of Richmond; three sons: Herbert (Darlene) of Blackstone, Kenneth and Samuel of Rice; one sister: Regina Wilkerson of Amelia; six grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; three sister-in-laws; three brother-in-laws; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends: two devoted, Dennis and Earl Christopher.
