HHS PTSA Meeting

In attendance: Amy B, Deanna K, Kendall H, Kevin H, Terry B, Heidi W, Joanie A, Amanda M, Nini H, Lorise R, Kelsey S Last month's minutes were not approved due to lack of quorum. (minutes taken by Terry B in absence of secretary)
Lorise spoke for Mr. Lyons (absent) Principals report: *Went over Exam schedule. *Registration for next semester opens soon. *There are 3 new teachers (2 Social studies, 1 English) *Meet the Teacher is Feb. 1st as well as Open House. *Boys Basketball team is undefeated and were #1 in the state.*Girls Basketball team has lost only 2 games.
Kelsey Selna - Junior at HHS - gave a presentation for a safer route to Heritage for walkers and bikers. He is taking on this project because he has been hit twice in route to Heritage from Heritage Gates while on his bike. The breakdown is on the presentation hand out. (handout will be in secretary book if needed to be seen) Kelsey hopes to extend the concrete sidewalk so that students only have to cross once to the Heritage High School side. He wants the backing of the PTSA when he goes to NCDOT and the director of engineering for the Town of Wake Forest. Lorise shared a flier with Kelsey concerning Walk and Bike to School Day, May 10. Kendall and other PTSA members gave him some "pointers" for when he goes to the DOT. All congratulated him on a job well done and good luck.
President's Report: Lorise R. *Giving Tree will be discussed in Feb. Agenda. *The Business Alliance meeting was cancelled. However, their latest endeavors have been obtaining internships at Best Buy and hoping to get more in the community. The special ed students also have been going to Lowes and Harris Teeter for work experience. *Teacher Grant - Only Ms. Roche has submitted a teacher grant for an online French program for $35. All agreed. There are other grants that can possibly take place, but they have yet to be submitted. *At the holiday teacher luncheon Harris Teeter not only donated 4 platters of cookies, we also got our "big check" for $284. We plan on displaying at the Meet the Teacher Night. *Talent Show/Mr. Heritage - May 1: After much discussion, it was decided that Joanie and Lorise would write up a plan to present to SGA. The PTSA will organize and run the Talent show part of the night. Amanda and Heidi may be possible committee chairs for the Talent show. Our part will be to advertise auditions, provide MC, sell popcorn /candy and handle ticket sales.
VP of Ways and Means: Kendall
Communications - Kevin Howerton. - nothing to report.
Membership - Terry Batchelor - Department winner of PTSA Staff membership drive is the Science Department. Dinner will be served for them on Meet the Teacher Night. An email will be sent on Thursday, the 19th to announce winner. Possible Mr. Lyons will make his own announcement. (Joanie to organize.) Upcoming events are the Meet the Teacher/Open House. Will need everyone we can get for our big last push of memberships. Still need a gift card/prize for second semester no fuss drawing (closer to the end of the year).
Fundraising : Deanna Knowles - Next spirit night is Jan. 31 at Subway.
Other possible fundraisers are the following:
1)Selling Sam's Express Car Wash Cards (Sell for $20, we get $10, car washes are $5, $8, $10 and $15. ) If they reload cards they will get 20% more value added.
2)McDonalds in March - Not much info yet. Waiting on responses.
3)RealMcCoys in March 14th or 21st.(Spirit Night) - we get 10% of the sales.
4) Honey Baked Ham - We provide link to sell the cards. Get 20% of proceeds. Possible do for Spring Break.
5)Grandmas's Diner - Maybe - April/May? We get 15% from 4 to 7 pm and they will give $20 gift card to give to a teacher.
6) Still checking with Over the Falls.
7)Chipotle - we get 50% of sales from the one on Capital One. We are thinking on doing lunch hour possible March/ April.
Scholarships - will discuss next meeting.
VP of Hospitality - Joanie Arteta -Discussed the Holliday luncheon and how generous Harris Teeter was; they even donated the coffee with the cookies. She sent them a thank you note.
Exam Treats - Amanda and Heidi - The students were really thankful and appreciated the candy. Amanda also made signs wishing them good luck - a very nice touch. It reach all students:). Members were given candy bars.
Next teacher lunch will be provided by Sheetz. We will do the February lunch. No Student Awards date yet.
Financial Report - NiniHowerton:Have $14000 in the bank. Have not met revenue target as of yet. 130 VIC sign ups - $500.
Next meeting will be Feb. 21 since the next 2nd Tuesday lands on Valentines Day.
