A General Maintenance / Electrician is sought to develop and enhance the College’s Maintenance Team. Reporting to the Clerk of Works, the successful applicant will support the team in maintaining and refurbishing the College’s residential and non-residential properties within the city.

The proposed salary will be competitive. Additionally, the appointee is entitled to join a contributory pension scheme (OSPS). A generous holiday entitlement of 23 days, in addition to public bank holidays and Christmas closure period, is also included.

JOB DESCRIPTION

6. / Main purpose of the job: / Delivery of college maintenance services to a consistently high standard to all stakeholders.
7. / Main responsibilities / ·  Deal with all general maintenance requests in a timely manner.
·  When making equipment purchases ensure each purchase is cost effective and within the budget perimeters imposed.
·  Be aware of procedures relating to asbestos-containing materials.
·  Be aware of procedures relating to potential sources of legionella.
·  Report any potential health and safety issues promptly.
·  Coordinate remedial work on request from line manager or a member of the senior management team.
·  Monitoring and maintaining of stock and replenishing when appropriate.
·  You would be required to carry out a variety of electrical works in college premises across the city, ranging from simple lamp replacements, small maintenance repairs and fault finding to new installations and rewiring.

8. / Competencies required / Essential:
·  Qualified to the 17th Edition (C&G 2382 - 15).
·  Full UK driving licence.
Highly Desirable:
·  Inspection & Testing (C&G 2391/2394/5) would be desirable, but not essential.
·  Experience in using email.
·  Experience of dealing with general repairs and maintenance (preferably in a learning environment).
·  Occupational experience of electrical installation and maintenance with the ability to deliver excellent customer service
·  Experience of working with Microsoft Office, especially Outlook (email), Word and Excel.
·  Basic knowledge of fire safety and general health and safety.
·  Some experience of basic plumbing, carpentry.

·  Able to carry out duties involving manual handling.
·  A team player, able to work with and around students, staff and contractors.
·  Proactive, self-motivated and able to work independently.
·  Willing to work occasional evening/weekend overtime as required.

10. / Key interfaces / Clerk of Works (line manager), Home Bursar (H&S) Bursar and Accountant (finances), HR Manager (HR), other College departments as needed.
11. / Terms and conditions / Salary will be competitive, paid monthly by BACS transfer. The successful applicant will be entitled to membership of a contributory pension scheme (OSPS), and a generous holiday entitlement of 23 days (all dates are subject to confirmation with line manager), in addition to bank holidays and Christmas closure (typically five working days).
Due to the nature of College operations, applicants may be required to work on bank holidays, for which overtime will be offered.
The successful applicant may be required to work weekends as part of their role. The typical hours of work shall be a minimum of 40 hours per week.
A free meal will be provided when on duty.
A uniform and all relevant Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided.
