Hero S Journey Assignment (Test Grade)

Hero’s Journey Assignment (Test Grade)

Your epic task is as follows:

First trace threespecific events from Homer’s The Odysseyand tie them to corresponding sub-stages from Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey cycle (you must select one sub-stage from each major stage of the Hero’s cycle – for example, one sub-stage from the major phase of “Departure,” one from the major phase of “Initiation,” etc.).

Be sure to provide embedded text evidence complete with both internal (parenthetical) citations and a full citation in a works cited section.

You must also be sure to provide enough compelling commentary to clearly outline how the selected event matches up with the chosen sub-stage of the Hero’s Journey.

Next you must choose an outside “text” to investigate. This could be another written work, a film, a television cartoon, a song, even a video or board game.

Once the second “story” has been selected, the student must then also select three specific elements/portions of said “story” to tie to three sub-stages of Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey cycle (again, you must select at least one sub-stage from each major stage of the Hero’s Journey).

Be sure to provide either embedded text evidence or extremely detailed paraphrasing complete with both internal (parenthetical) citations and a full citation in a works cited section. Be sure to carefully use citation generators (bibme.org or citationmachine.net) to create correct citations!

You must also be sure to (again) provide enough compelling commentary to clearly outline exactly how your selected portions/events match up with the chosen sub-stages of the Hero’s Journey.

The possible product options are virtually endless:

PowerPoint slideshow

Poster boards/flipcharts

Prezi presentations

Board games

Pop-up books, etc.

3-D maps/objects of any materials that mirror particular sub-stages (i.e. a constructed whale to represent “The Belly of the Whale” stage, a roadway with warning signs to symbolize “The Road of Trials”, etc.)

The vehicle for this product is your choice. The content is what is important. If you have a vision outside of these presented options, just make sure it encapsulates the requirements outlined above. If you have any questions, feel free to run them by me before starting on your quest.

Think so hard on this one folks that you don’t just “work outside of the box”- actually implode it.
