7. Aims
The module aims to :· To provide an understanding of the nature of the differences that exist amongst pupils within a typical classroom
· To show how the teacher can take these differences into account in the course of his/her planning and teaching
· To provide a thorough understanding of the curriculum in Scottish secondary schools, focusing particularly on S3-4 and Standard Grade courses
· To demonstrate how to use appropriate resources in constructing programmes of work
· To describe and provide an understanding of the key features of assessing pupils’ progress and achievements
· To illustrate how to display an appropriate level of classroom management and control
8. Syllabus
Key areas covered are:· Course planning: setting course aims, different teaching skills including ICT, patterns of interaction (teacher-pupil, pupil-pupil), monitoring and evaluation of courses, how experienced teachers plan.
· Nature of individual differences e.g.: different levels of ability/attainment in the subject: attitude and motivation: literacy and numeracy
· Differentiation e.g.: by pupil, course, dialogue
· Assessment: norm referenced, criterion referenced, grade related criteria, competence-based assessment
· Classroom management and control e.g.: pro-active and reactive discipline

On completion of this module, the learner will be able to:
