This term (January - April) our topic is “Our World”. This topic will cover themes such as: Animals, their habitats- under the sea, down in the jungle, on the farm, their young; space; different places in the world and the people who live their, types of houses, how they live; growth and decay in flowers; recycling; different foods; living things and non living things; seasons and weathers.

This term in nursery we will be talking and learning about different themes covering the topic ‘Our World’. So we will be carrying out activities about different animals, looking at their habitats, their life cycles etc. We will be looking at the different places on the globe and talking about who lives where, different things people eat, different types of houses in different countries etc. We will be looking at living and non living things and how to care for living things such as plants. We will be learning about the importance of recycling and looking at different seasons and weathers. Some of the activities we will be carrying out based around this topic include our visit from the Animal Man; the pre school children will be taking a trip to see some animals. We will be planting in our garden and helping the plants grow.

If you would like to come in and carry out an activity or speak to any of the children about places you have visited, animals you have, trying different types of food from around the world…please speak to your child’s key person and we will be happy to arrange a date and time.

Here are a few suggestions for you to enjoy with your child at home:

·  Go for a walk around your local park or woodland area and look at the different types of plants, flowers and trees around you. Can you spot any animals when you are out?

·  Take a trip to a farm, zoo or sea life centre and look at the different habitats of the animals.

·  Visit the library and look books on the world, people, homes, space and animals

·  Make your own paper mache planets and decorate them, why not make some aliens too out of junk modelling?

·  Look at the different seasons and weathers we have and make some weather pictures, using different coloured leaves, paints, cotton wool etc.

·  Look at the different ways we travel the world, visit the airport to watch the planes, make some boats to sail down a river?

·  Plant some bulbs and watch them grow, taking about living things and the growth cycle.
