Make Your Weekend Plans with uvHere.com

Website provides free community calendar to Upper Valley residents

Grantham, N.H. — May 17, 2007— Need something to do today? Type www.uvHere.com into your browser and you can take your pick of entertainment options: A program sponsored by the Cornish (N.H.) Historical Society; an educational lecture about Alzheimer’s at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.; bingo in Hartford, Vt.; or learning about Vermont architecture at the Woodstock Historical Society.

Launched in 2006, uvHere.com — an online calendar with up-to-the-minute events and activities happening across the Upper Valley — provides residents with information about what is happening in their communities. It’s free to post events and it’s free to find events; it may, in fact, become addictive. “The site went down for a day and a uvHere.com reader called and said, ‘Where’s the site? I need it to make my weekend plans,’” says Peter Ericson, one of the founders of uvHere.com and the president of The Complete Website, a Web development firm in Grantham, N.H.

Every day, uvHere.com crawls several different calendar sites in the Upper Valley and makes an index of the events listed there. UvHere.com software then categorizes the events by date, town, Web site source and category. (Weekend Saturday/Sunday events are highlighted as green links.) Local organizations and individuals can also submit their events — anything from balloon festivals to yard sales — for free. Many groups are doing just that; Hanover Chamber of Commerce, Eastman Recreation, Simon Pearce, The Fells, the Hopkins Center, Claremont Opera House and the Upper Valley Waldorf School have posted their events this year.

“uvhere.com is a great resource. The Recreation Department likes to use it for a variety of reasons. The postings are free, it is very easy to use and it reaches the local audience we are trying to target for our events,” says Leslie Moses, director of recreation at Eastman in Grantham.
