Dear E Evans

SUBJECT: Freedom of Information Request

Thank you for your email of 10 April 2010, in which you asked for the total costs of the “In Court” magazine published by Her Majesty Court Service (HMCS). You also asked to be provided with the cost of staff time, production, and distribution, for a full year from the Ministry of Justice (MoJ).

Your request has been passed to me because I have responsibility for answering requests which relate to Her Majesty’s Courts Service and your request has been handled under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA).

I can confirm that the Department holds information relating to the first part of your request regarding the total costs of the “In Court” magazine published by HMCS, which is as follows:

In Court costs April 2009 - March 2010

Design£26,715

Print & Distribution£38,015.50

Total: £64,730.50

With regard to information sought in second part of your request regarding the cost of staff time, production and distribution, for a full year. I can confirm that the Department do not hold the information. This is because we do not have a dedicated member of staff who specifically deals with this task. However I can confirm this task is part of the Senior Internal Communications Manager's role in the Internal Communications team and it takes approximately one third of her time. Please note that under the Freedom of Information Act there is no requirement for a public authority to analyse, process or generate new information in order to respond to requests. As no such statistical breakdown has been previously generated by the Department within the terms of the request it is therefore regarded as ‘notheld”.

I trust you find that above helpful.

As part of our obligations under the FOIA, the MoJ has an independent review process. If you are dissatisfied with this decision, you may write to request an internal review. The internal review will be carried out by someone who did not make the original decision, and they will re-assess how the Department handled the original request.

If you wish to request an internal review, please write or send an email to the Data Access and Compliance Unit within two months of the date of this letter, at the following address:
